Average wait for NOA1?

I am Canadian and my fiance is American. He applied for the I-129F. We sent our package February 22/08. What is the average wait time to receive the NOA1? And at what point should we be contacting USCIS if we don't receive one (30 days, 60 days, etc.?)

Also, when/if we're approved and we receive the NOA2 is it up to me to contact the consulate abroad for a visa, or do they contact me?

Thanks!

NOA1 receipt dates vary...depends on the service centre your app is sent to. As to the second question, upon approval of the petition, the package you need for the next step is sent to you. It's called packet 3. Upon completion of that and the medical (with required info mailed to the consulate), an interview will be scheduled and then once approved for the visa (at the interview) your visa will be mailed out to you. Our journey was, from start to finish, 7 months. Best wishes! :)

It doesnt take that long to receive the NOA1 but I have read few that USCIS has been delaying a lot and yes! they are delayed due to the volume of applicants...just like my case.

Hey.. It looks like you applied through Vermont. Vermont is usually a lot faster.. Most people are seeing it in about 2 weeks... Did they cash the check yet? If you look on the back of the check, they put your case number on there. It will start with EAC and then 10 numbers to follow. You can try that on the USCIS website. IF you don't receive it in 30 days, try giving them a call...

We got our NOA1 in the mail 4 days after they received it at VSC...the official date was the same day they received it (Feb. 19). We got it Feb. 23. So officially the NOA1 in our case was given in 0 days.
