He is so cute. I know it must be frustrating to be apart, but like you said the good thing is he is gaining weight. And poor Job, I am sure he really wants to be sharing in the joy of his little brother and hard to explain to him, but soon he will be home with you all enjoying all that attention you are saving up for him.

Thanks for the update Steven. Joshua is filling out very nicely and it looks like the swelling in his head is gone (or is it just the angle of the shot?). Hope Joshua will get to go home soon. (F)

aww Joshua looks great! I'm sure they'll let him home soon! I'm a pedi nurse and my hospital lets all the mom's do rooming-in with their children after they were discharged from the maternity unit.

Too bad that's not a standard in all hospitals.

I hope that you will be able to keep up the breastfeeding! If you have any second thoughts about something a doctor or nurse tells you- get a second or third opinion. Don't worry if that makes you the "annoying parent from room 104" but unfortunately there's some hospital staff out there who is either too misinformed, stressed out, lazy or just plain rude.

Congratulations on your supercute little boy! :star:

Thanks, Stef. (F) We're about to head over there right now. My wife has been able to nurse him and extract enough milk to leave there for the nursing staff to feed him. We make several trips throughout the day to see him and to drop off additional milk. I think the breast milk has really been helpful - he was dehydrated for a day but is now soiling diapers regularly. His hematoma has gone but there is bruise discoloration around the base of his head and neck. They tested his hearing yesterday and the left ear didn't pass. They were going to retest today, but I'm concerned because his left side was where most of the swelling took place.

Best wishes on your pregnancy. (F)(L)

thank you! I'm glad things work great with the feedings! You two make wonderful parents! Don't worry too much about his ear. I tested a lot of babies' ears and the machines are extremely sensitive. Sometimes its the machine who's to blame or some babies still have some "stuff" in their ears from the delivery. Most babies are checked again at the first pediatricians visit and by then they're just fine!
