yeah.. hope it happens today Steven!

I'll be in Hickory the rest of the day because my son's band will be at the contest festival there. Maybe I should take my laptop (they have wireless at the contest venue) and check on Steven and Jinky's progress. :D

Dear waiting room attendees,

It's 7:30am here and we're going to see the doc in a couple of hours. I think what she's had so far is not real labor because it's not constant and most of it is in the abdominal area. At least we have the weekend if this stretches out longer, but dear God please can this baby come out today? :(

For mothers - has anyone had a midwife or doctor strip their membranes and if so, do you remember how long after that before you gave birth?

I'm really scared about having Pitocin to induce labor. I've been reading that some doctors suggest a link to Pitocin and autism in children, especially boys. I'll consider it if the doctor can give me some reassurance. How was your Joshua when he was born? Was he responsive and were you able to hold him right away? (F) I can't wait to hold the baby. :crying:

Steven,

My doctor had to induce labor because my bag of water had broken but I had not developed any contractions yet. Even with the induction, it still took about 18 hours of (mostly dry) labor before I had dilated enough for delivery. (So yeah, I swore off child birth for a while after that experience). My son came out as a blue baby because the hole in his heart did not, as it's supposed too right before they are born. Thankfully, the hole closed by itself after 24 hours. Other than that, my son was a very healthy and well-behaved baby.

Don't know anything about stripping the membrane though. Sorry.

My midwife stripped my membranes on Wed morning(Jan 30th) and my labor started around 3:30am Jan 31st. But the baby wasn't born til Feb 1st, by c-section for failure to progress past 7cms. (as you probably already know!)

I hope Jinky is doing okay. IS this a lot different than her previous labor?

I got sent home from the hospital 2 times. I was in severe pain the 2nd time but still they wouldn't keep me since I didn't get past 2 cms even after walking the hospital for an hour. Turns out the baby was "sunny side up"(face facing outwards towards stomach instead of towards spine) causing very bad back labor and my labor just wasn't normal. When I went the 3rd time to the hosp, I was already 7cms, yet my contractions were not at normal intervals. Some were 2 mins apart, some were 6 mins apart, but they all hurt very badly.

I hope we hear good news soon!! Is Jinky able to rest through the contrax? If so, tell her to sleep as much as possible. I wasn't able to sleep through mine and they even gave me a pill to relax muscles to use at home to sleep...yeah right! :P Didn't help one bit.

Oh yeah-I was given pitocin to try to make my contrax even stronger after not progressing for a little while at the hospital, but it didn't make me dilate more.

I think the membrane stripping thing timewise is different for everyone but I bet thats what their next step will be with Jinky. And Steven I have read some of those pitocin/autism studies also and its a little scary but then again so is being in slow labor for days and days on end. There are also studies regarding a link between immunizations and autism but I still got my babies vaccinated. I had Pitocin with both my kids (and a LOT of it with my son) and they are all fine now and were the moment they came out alert and responsive and perfectly healthy so *try* not to worry if thats the path they recommend...
