So I have been meaning to do this for a while, just add up what it really costs to get an IR1 visa when applying from Canada, Calgary in particular I guess since it includes flight/postage costs. It will be different for everyone, because some have to get passports and/or birth certificates, but we already had those.

I personally think it is interesting. If anyone else is feeling analytical maybe they can do one including the new fees.

So here it is:

USCIS/Dept. of Homeland Security Fees:

I-130 $ 190.00 U.S. (CDN $226.97)

DS-230 - $ 335.00 U.S. (CDN $ 354.10)

I- 864 - $ 70.00 U.S. (CDN $ 73.99 - didn't have slip so used bank of Canada rate for that day)

Security Fee $ 45.00 U.S. (CDN $ 48.40)

Total Fees: CDN $ 703.46

Couriers and Post:

Canada Post: 11.40 and 29.50

Purolator overnight: 31.24 x 5 = 156.20

Postage Total: $ 197.10

Other items:

Bank Draft Fees: 4 @ $ 6.50 = 26.00

Australian police certificate: $ 32.00 CDN ($ 36.00 AUS)

Canadian police certificate: Approx $30.00

Medical $ 260.00

Tetanus shot $30.00

Flight to/from Montreal $ 492.73

Hotel $134.82

Total Other: $ 1005.55

Grand Total: $1906.11

Ouch!

Trying to remember what our K1 and AOS cost....before the fee change:

(all figures rounded to the nearest dollar amt)

I-129F - $170.00

Passport pics: $12.00

Medical: - $150.00

Canada Post: $12.00

Visa bill - $100.00

Flight to MTL: - $300.00

Hotel in MTL: - $100.00 (I think)

My flights to see him during process: $2700.00 (not really part of the process, but a cost anyway)

Total: $744.00 ($3444.00 if including visits)

AOS package: $800.00 (included fee for AP and EAD)

USPS Priority Mail: $7.00

Civil Surgeon: $50.00

Passport pics: $10.00

Total: $867.00

Upcoming costs (unless USCIS goes up on the fees):

Removing Conditions: $545.00 plus biometrics $80

Citizenship: $675.00

Grand total for completion of all processes:

$2911.00 (not including visits during K1 process)

I am sure I left something out...I'm sure of it. That figure seems too small.

Boy do I ever know that feeling! That was our understanding of the process too before we started! It was SO frustrating when we realized it would take a LOT longer and much more money than we expected! But, in the long run it will be worth it. I'm estimating it will be around $3000 just for the paperwork, once we're all done because of the fee increases. We didn't beat the rush. ~sighs~ Oh well. Stupid divorce! ~giggles~ :D

Being able to live with the love of your life .... priceless. ;)

This is true...we were saying just the other day that we're glad we are not apart anymore, but would do it all again if we had to. It's just a shame that some of us have to pay such exorbitant amounts to be together.

Being with Joel...waking up beside him, kissing him goodnight...l just sharing life with him is indeed priceless. :)

I can save you $80, Karen . . the I-751 is $545 including the biometrics.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Jus wondering, isn't the i-130 fee is $355

It wasn't when we filed, I mentioned that in my post, that perhaps someone might want to do one with the new fees. The fees went up Aug 1st I believe it was - we filed in March 2007

Oh and just out of interest - the new fees:

Form I-130 : $355.00 (increase of $165.00)

Form DS-230 : $355.00 (increase of $20.00)

Immigrant visa security surcharge, for all IV and DV applicants: $45.00

Affidavit of Support Review (only when AOS is reviewed domestically), Form I-864 : $70.00

So that would bring the total up by $185.00.
