Here is the situation my husbands grandmother broke her hip in dec. since then she has been recovering , now she will need a Knee replacement due to the stress that was put on favouring the hip. I am a health care worker who does geriatrics. I have experience with rehabiltion. She needs the operation soon , my 129f is approved and should be forwarded to the montreal consulate any day.

As I would be a great help to the family at this time with assisting with activities of daily living and rehabilitation. Could i get a expediated interview under these circumstances???? anyone know ??

I don't know the answer but I wish you good luck. I just had double knee replacements in November and a person can use all the help they can get, though I was back on my feet and back to work in January!

well the grandmother is in her mid 80s so it will be a little longer recovery time. And to have a health care person in the family who can do the work and spend the time is important for recovery. It also is silly to pay someone for this work when I ready wiling and able.

Does not hurt o ask, all they can do is say no!! if you do not ask, you will never know. best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

sorry to say, but i highly doubt that his grandmother's impending elective surgery will in any way allow you to cut in line in front of others.

You make it seem like i'm trying to cut in front. If you ever had knee problems you might not think of this as a elective surgery. This is so the 80 + year old women can leave without pain. Have some couthe..........

Call and see if there's some sort of "compassionate" type of temporary visa, although I never heard of one. It may be best, however, to consider getting another health care worker to take care of grandma rather than jeopardizing your immigration status. Even though you feel no one else can (or should) take care of her, Immigration will surely see it otherwise: there are plenty of nurses in the States.

You may want to investigate Hospice, which provides daily home visits for those who qualify for Medicare. She'd get RN's to monitor meds, nurses aides for bathing, toileting, laundry, and feeding, volunteer drivers for doctor's visits, and lots more. Better to see this in practical terms rather than making a moral or emotional stand that could backfire.

You can call or email the consulate and ask them.

I know when we were waiting for the MRI on my daughter and worrying about the possibility she had had a mini-stroke Steve mailed them and asked if there was anything we could do if she had indeed had one. We were afraid of leaving her home alone for long periods, and I get home 5 hours after she gets home from school, if something happened it would take me an hour to make it home and don't have paid time off to care for her.

They told us if that was the case get a letter of medical necessity from her attending physician and fax that and a letter to them explaining our circumstances.

I have to admit right now I'm wishing there still was enough grounds to expedite our case but haven't considered asking. She didn't have a mini-stroke just a ruptured disk in her neck so I don't feel it would be sufficent cause but man, this week has been hell, first she had a serious allergic reaction to the contrast media, then a reaction to the meds they gave her to counteract that, and now finally she's better, I've missed a week of work over it all and in the aftermath the stress levels have triggered a fairly strong asthma episode in me today (it's been building all week) so here I sit trying to get it under control so I can go to work but not wanting to drive an hour or more in the rain while wheezing and coughing. Life is good...yeah right
