We're applying for K-1 visa and my partner has a 3 year old daughter. She's still very young and isn't ready to leave her mother, so we are looking into bringing her along in the next few years. The K-2 visa, with its rule that you must travel within a year, is probably too soon for us.

But I don't want to lose that option if the alternative would mean waiting 5 years. My partner would miss his daughter very much. Does anyone know roughly how long it takes for a permanent resident to bring a child to the US? Are we talking months, a year, many years?

Any help is appreciated, I've been searching the net and haven't found anything helpful.

PR is about 5 years.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Michelle,

Once you marry your partner you can petition for his child as your stepchild any time you're ready.
