Hi from the evacuee. Things are fine right now but won't be in 15 to 24 hours. I'm on the north side of Houston and we will have possible 70-80 mph winds and 6-8 inches rain where I am now. My house, 70 miles closer to the coast could be bad news because of storm surge but we'll see whenever we are allowed back in. Going back will depend on damage and conditions.

It looks bad, but not a whole lot I can do about it but wait and see what happens. Oh, and among the things I evacuated from my house are all the immigration papers. Got to keep up with those.

Great to hear from you Nich. I know you're smart enough to stay safe. Just know your VJ friends are thinking of you and hoping your home is not damaged.

Nick is coming Sept 30 and will have a house to come to. Hurricane Ike passed right over us. Came back home today. no power yet. no stores. no gas. we have curfew 7pm, but i was about 50 min late tonight. just hooked laptop up to phone line which works. typing by candlelight. dialup sucks. Isuck using laptop in the dark. not used to keyboard or touchpad. House is fine. many trr limbs in yard and some shingles off roof. no leaks. it is cooler now...maybe mid 80s. i am sweating buckets with no ac. 2 million without power but they are working on it. lost power in houston where i evacuated just after midnight friday night. both daughters had trees fall. one blocked the street. the othrt snapped off in middle and fell on neighbors car. oops. we cooked out on grill after hurricane saturday night and drank wine. actually started on the champagne sat morning while it was still chilled since no refrigeration. then the beer that was going to get hot. i drank barely chilled diet coke and pretended to be back in uk. hahaha. things are ok here

Wonderful News, Nich! It is so good to hear that your home was not damaged and that you had a home to return to...

When you wrote about the barely chilled diet coke, I laughed, because that was a major problem for me during my month in London. Why is that? Why was there hardly anyone with ice makers in the fridge or even ice cube trays? Even when I bought a diet coke at the market, it seemed to not be as cold as ours here :) Actually, the coca-cola recipe even tasted different. I am hooked on diet coke and that small factor was huge when I was there.

I am rambling again.....I'm just glad that you're okay Nich.

Hi Nich

I thought I had already posted a reply to your post ... but it seems to have gotten lost in the "wild blue yonder"!

I've been checking the board every day to see if there was any word from you as I had been thinking about you and all you were having to deal with over there. I am so glad to hear that you got through it ok.

Steve was telling me that they have been getting heavy rain in Iowa. Well he wasn't telling me, he was moaning about it! When I told him what YOU were going through down in Texas. he felt extremely sheepish for moaning lol!

At least it won't be long until Nick is with you ... <<< that's the Highland Fling by the way!!

Take care and good luck with the clean up ...

ahhhh the little things!

Thats the gift these things bring.... the wisdom to appreciate what you have and love most. ;)

Oh Nich, it's good to here a FEMA success story for a change. You received ICE and that is so nice

It is still such a gift to still have your home intact. I suppose you did not qualify for the 30 days of free hotel accommodations, since you still have your house? Well, thankfully, you are okay.

Hey guys!

First of all i wanted to do a happy dance for KIM and RUSS!:dance::dance:

This is for someone who deserved all our happy thoughts and worked so much for their love!

And next point:

NICH i am glad you and your house are ok and working your way back to normality so you can receive NICK :)

And most of all i am happy you got your ice! Oh....we sure don't want to see you acting wihtout ice...lol

I was just thinking the other day that most of us will be filing for AOS in October so we can all be reunited in the October AOS thread! Wouldn't that be great? Even if i have already been here for a while our wedding is going to be October 9th and we will be sending out the paperwork shortly after.

It has been such an eventfull summer! It is so good to be back with my guy but at the same time so hard from other points of view... Missing family and friends back home and changing your whole life.. I am sure some of you know what i am talking about. I must admitt i had a few melt downs during this time... And i got through them thinking about how much i have waited for this to happen and that everybody has their own way in life and you can't have everything...

But little by little living in America starts to become natural.

Happy thoughts for everyone!

Alina
