I've been trying to recreate my favorite 'dip' from my fav. Lebanese restaurant back home.

With Shish Taouk they would serve this dip as an example.

Everywhere I look online the recipe seems to be

1 bulb garlic

1/2 cup of olive oil

and

1Tbl of lemon juice.

I just tried this AGAIN with really fresh garlic and a mediocre oil.. and it was SO strong and nasty I almost threw up.

I REALLY want to make this.. anyone have a no-fail recipe??

I think it's called Toum. maybe you're using too much garlic. one bulb sounds like a lot. try the following:

INGREDIENTS

4 cloves garlic, peeled

1/4 cup vegetable oil, or as needed

1 pinch salt

1 lemon, juiced

DIRECTIONS

Crush garlic in a mortar and pestle with a generous pinch of salt. Mix in oil a teaspoon at a time until the mixture will absorb no more oil. Stir in the lemon juice. serve at room temperature with Lebanese breads, hummus or Tabbouleh

I've never mastered this recipe yet. ..although I've only tried a few times. hehe. One of my favorite restaurants, "Zankou Chicken" has the world's best toum and I can't seem to figure out what they do!!!!

Good luck and post the best recipe here if you ever find out a good one. You could always mix garlic in some mayo for a fast fix. Luckily I found store bought toum at our local arabic market but its still not nearly as good as Zankou!!!
