This varies by field office.

You need to look at your field office for processing time.

Look it up here: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=of....office_type=LO

And then look here for time: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/ptimes.jsp

You may want to add your field office to your profile:

and find the AOS office closes to you and which you'll be mailing to.

The I-485 is not mailed to the closest office, it is mailed to USCIS Chicago Lock box.

But I read that we have to mail it to the Chicago office... it is not to a local office...
Correct, Chicago is the processing center, they will then send tie I-485 to NBC where they will either send it to CSC for adjudication and possable approval without interview, or they will send it to your local field office for interview.

Again YOU MUST send the case to Chicago Lock Box per the I-485 directions.
