On question 26: "How Long Do You Intend To Stay in The U.S.?"

We are applying for a K3 and I told my wife to put "permanently" for this question.

She went to the bank today to pay for the visa and turn in the DS156. After she did this she tells me that the guy at the bank says she can not put "permanently" and she has to put a date. She is confused and the guys says: "6 months, 1 year, 2years, 5 years??? How long do you intend to be in the U.S.?" so my wife answers "5 years".

Anyway, I was thinking to go back and change it. I told her if he wants a time frame to put "1000 years". If he wants a year put until "2999". What exactly should we do about this? What is the worse case scenario?

Since it is Friday I would like to her to be able to go back to the bank today if possible.

Any help is much appreciated!!!

"PERMANENTLY" is on the example form: http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-DS-156.pdf

The K-1 examples can be used for K-3, just make adjustments for fiancee verses spouse.

Thanks!

That is where I got permanently from and she says this guy made her put a time frame. I am stressing now because she already turned it in and paid. Now I am stressing. I think I am going to send her back and put 999 years.

What do you think?

You could put 2 years there because K-3 is valid for 2 years. You will be adjusting any way, so time frame really does not matter.

But since she turned it in already, then put it out of your mind.

Ok that puts me at ease. We are going to let it go. Like everyone else, I will be so so so happy when this process is over. This really can rip a guy a up. I was totally calm until 2 weeks ago, and now it is "show time" next week.

Since she is doing another copy at the embassy should she put "5 years" to keep it the same, or try again to put permanent? She says the guy in the bank isn't transferring the info to the embassy. I hope that is correct?

I really we get one of those 2 minute interviews, and I can laugh at myself for being stressed over nothing.

Thanks for the input!

I would go with Permanent on the one for the interview, because K-3 is for Permanent Residence Process.

I know what it is like to be left hanging when searching through older posts, so I just came back to add the outcome ...

Yeah this didn't turn out to be much of a problem. It was explained at the embassy and they said: "Ok" and wrote "Permanently".

Maybe this will save the someone else from panicking over nothing, like I did. :D
