This is just so much bull. I don't agree that the journalist shouldn't have been allowed to publish the comments (well, I am assuming that it is unprofessional to state that an interview is on the record and then make statements in the heat of the moment and then at the end be able to say, well, ignore this bit, that bit, the other bit etc. They are professional people and they should know how to conduct themselves in an interview situation) However, I don't agree that this is meaningful in terms of Obama's campaign.

I wonder if she's been ditched because of her inability to conduct the interview professionally rather than spefically what was said? Hmmm.

Probably. I completely agree that she did not conduct herself professionally. She doesn't seem to understand that campaigning is not for people who are too honest or have trouble controlling themselves. I don't think this says anything about Obama, either, and I don't understand the subtitle of this thread, since he didn't say anything.

I don't think the reporter should have reported it, since she should have known it would cause problems that would take away from the real news, but that's really not the most important point. Not sure why Dev is dwelling on it. I only commented on it because obviously I have an interest in journalism and the choices publications make, but it's not the story here.

Dev, not sure what you're trying to prove. I already told you that technically it's OK to write something if someone only says it was off the record after the fact. If they say it immediately though, and it's not something vital to the public, then the reporter is an arsehole for writing it.

Obviously trying to cause a sensation. And hoping people without scruples will spread it around.

I posted it for everyone who wants to read it Alex, don't feel so flattered.

The reporter explained why it's not OTR in that article. If you google Journalism sourcing - many agree it would not indeed be OTR. ;)

PS: The Scotsman is a liberal paper, so your argument is null. Also, this story is all over the internet - as is any political & newsworthy story.

Dev, I didn't say you were addressing only me; I was simply saying I'd already said it so I'm not sure what your point is. I also didn't say it was being sensationalist because it's got some sort of interest in American conservative politics. I assumed a more capitalist motive, just like the Daily News (yes, I'm aware it's all over everywhere).

Why do you write like this? Why are you going for the kill? Seriously. It's the nomination. I know you're a cool person.

I posted the story that was in question & now I have no point? what the???

I could care less if you think I'm cool, Alex, don't be so condescending.

Then perhaps you should understand what OTR actually means. They quite clearly discuss it here. :)

I'd rather be called a monster then be called Kenneth Starr. :P

Yeah, no kidding! Where's the outrage?

I'll just be glad when this is all over. Then we can get back to arguing over illegal immigration and global warming. :P

Alex+R you gotta admit, Dev has taken a lot of grief over her support of Hillary. Its her turn to jab & have some fun at the Obama supporters expense. many have been enjoying themselves at her expense.

She's been jabbing at Obama supporters since Day 1 as well. I know some people like to argue about politics in that style, although I really don't get it in this case. She has every right to continue to do so, but I don't think if she takes grief for her comments it's as much because of who she supports as the way she conducts herself supporting that candidate.

Obama Adviser: Clinton a 'Monster'

The Scotsman newspaper reported Thursday evening that Power had described Clinton as "a monster," then attempted to subsequently make the comment off the record.

After the comments received notice, the Obama campaign issued a statement from Power saying "these comments do not reflect my feelings about Senator Clinton, whose leadership and public service I have long admired. I should not have made these comments and I deeply regret them. It is wrong for anyone to pursue this campaign in such negative and personal terms. I apologize to Senator Clinton and to Senator Obama, who has made very clear that these kinds of expressions should have no place in American politics." Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement saying that "Obama decries such characterizations, which have no place in this campaign."

But the campaign on Thursday stopped short of firing Power, and she stopped short of resigning.

In December, Obama had said he did "not want to see research that is involved in trying to tear people down personally. If I find out that somebody is doing that, they will be fired. And I have been absolutely crystal clear about this, and I have been clear about this for a very long time."

(Obvs she has since resigned, NOT been fired.)

I'm posting (political) stories Alex. You have called me out in every single post you made on this thread - most of which are factual! Passive aggressive much?

lol

This journalist probably just eliminated getting any decent interviews for the rest of the campaign.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

How is that passive aggressive? I've responded to your comments. I have opinions, as a citizen and as a journalist. It's a message board. And I try to do it with as much decency as possible. There's no need here for the eye-roll smiley.

I'd really like someone to show me the publisher and the edition of the thesaurus wherein "condescending" is synonymous with "doesn't agree with me".

She didn't just 'resign' for no reason, she was pushed. My comment stands, I wonder if she was pushed because Obama decided that her conduct in losing her cool in an on the record situation (all be it for a book launch rather than specifically connected to the nomination campaign) or because of that speficic comment? My hunch is the former.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
