Got my green card

Hey guys.

Just wanted to let you know that it looks like things are starting to catch up timewise.

They said that to get my actual greencard could take up to 6 months when I did my point of entry at Detroit Bridge, but warmed me to call within 3 months of the expiry of the stamp if I had not gotten it. (thus saying it could be 9 months)

I got the welcome letter two weeks after I entered, and the green card exactly one month from the day I entered the US (Feb 9)

Now I am good until 3 months before the 2 year anniversary of the visa. Then I must do something about the "C" in the CR-1.

I keep reading about people getting amazingly fast approvals and I hope that everyone's starts speeding up.

Oh.. and last night it finally hit me that after all the waiting I am with my husband and I am finally here! It felt like a dream (totally unreal) until then.

glad its all is well!! The I-751 is a very easy form to fill out. took me all of 10 minutes, and I'm a guy,lol

Hub's g/c finally came too.

He activated his CR-1 on Dec 20 and about 6 weeks later the g/c showed up. No welcome letter and poor Purgie is wrecked with grief over it <chortle>

On a side note , he never did get his SSN via the check the box option on the DS-230. I called the local office and they said they had never heard of that option ......guess they dont read their interoffice memos or their own website ( idiots)..... anyway ......he applied for it on Feb 14 and got it by the 26th.

So we too are good for a couple years-ish. I already filled out the I-751 and saved it on the puter. I know its silly but it made me feel prepared . The friggin form will prob be expired by 9/20/2009 but hey it's my neurosis and the Easter Bunny and I are happy with it

I was K1 and may be different but they told me the GC is good for 2 yrs. and that I had to renew 90 days before going by the anniversary date of issue on the GC not when I activated the Visa. She was very strict in telling me it had to be inside the 90 day window and not before then or I'd get the renewal application returned

no clue on what u k1'ers do,lol, but yes for the cr-1, it has to be in that 90 day window when filing the I-751. from the day i mailed in the 751 til receipt of the 10 yr greencard was approx 6 months!! About 1 month after I mailed in my 751 got the letter extending my original greencard for 1 more year.
