I went to my biometrics today in houston, I entered the country as a k1 fiancee and got married within 90 days. Now my passport is with my old last name and my appointment letter was with my new married last name. Which my passport was my only proof of identification other than my mexican drivers license which had my old last name as well, so they made me go all the way home and get my marriage certificate, luckily I dont live too far from the place.. But now- I was telling the lady that I can't get my drivers license yet and I hadnt gone to change my last name at the social security office since there is no use of me going since i cant work or use my social yet, and didnt know that I could get a texas ID, but she still made me drive home. So for evryone that is gonna go through biometrics make sure your name on the appointment letter matches your photo identification so they wont give you any kind of trouble.. or maybe it was just me that was having sort of a bad day... But on the bright side I got 2 more touches today which makes me think that they are working on my case, so far this week about 6 touches :)

Guess it was just to show something to make up for the discrepency between the appointment letter and your passport. Nothing major there. You have to do it with airlines if your passport is in your maiden name and your ticket is in your married name. I am sure the ASC was just covering their own back by wanting proof you were who the letter was addressed to.

Good thing you did live close by.

That is unusual that they would ask for that, it isn't relavant for the biometrics. The appointment letter and any photo ID should have been enough

Actually it is no unusual for them to ask for the marriage certificate. All her IDs were in her maiden name while her ASC appointment was in her married name. The ASC needed to see the document that linked the two names and that would be via the marriage certificate.

If you do a search on "what to bring to biometrics for AOS" almost everyone suggested bringing the marriage certificate as a precautionary measure in case the ASC does ask for it.

That's why it was needed, to show the reason the photo ID does not match the name in the appointment letter.

You are right, unusual if you had an ID that had the same name as the appointment letter... but in this case, the ID did not match and had they allowed her entry, it would have been highly unusual.....

YMMV

I guess I got lucky here in Columbus. I didn't clue in and begin to worry about my name in my passport not matching the appointment letter until I was walking into the building for my biometrics appointment. Thankfully when I went up to the counter with my letter and told the officer that I had completely forgotten to bring my marriage certificate, she just said "Oh that's fine, don't worry about it. It happens all the time" and she let me go ahead with the appointment.

Great advice!! I saw this happen to another girl when I went to my biometrics in Atlanta. It could have worked to have someone fax in the marriage certificate. I heard the officer ask her if she had someone who could do that for her but since she didn't she was sent home to get it.

First I ever heard of it. Marriage certificate doesn't mean anything to the application support center. It has always been the appointment letter and a photo ID that worked best

well again, it does mean something to the ASC as proof of a name change since the letter for bios does not match her photo ID (in this case a passport).
