Hello,

I'm sorry if this topic has already been discussed at length, but I just want some clarification.

My husband's Permanent Resident Card expires in June. We are getting ready to send in our packet to Lift Conditions soon.

As I understand it, we will get a letter stating that our packet has been received and that his status is extended for one year, while they put our packet in line to be processed.

We are planning to travel to Canada in September for a wedding. What exactly do we need to do? Do we schedule an InfoPass appointment to get a stamp in his passport? Will they take away his Permanent Resident Card when he gets that stamp?

Also, if his employer requests documentation that he is eligible to work after his Permanent Resident Card expires, do you think they will accept the letter stating his status is extended for one year?

Thanks for your help!

The receipt states that it extends the validity of the green card for one year and is good for both employment and for travel. Your husband would continue to carry the expired green card along with the NOA extending its validity. His employer should accept it, although there has been some discussion as to if he is even allowed to request proof of status for an existing employee who has already provided that proof at the start of employment. I am sure others will jump in and provide more details about this. He should be fine for your trip in September.
