I will see it, but probably not until it's out on DVD. Only because we don't go to the movies often...we wait to rent things usually unless it's an epic film that needs to be seen on a big screen. (we're cheap! hehe)

I understand the need for movies addressing older historical tragedies such as the Holocaust, WW2 and even Vietnam.

But 9/11!? That's took place in immediate living memory - there's noone alive, or old enough to appreciate who doesn't have a strong memory of that.

Has enough time passed to really demand a historical perspective on this? I'm not so sure.

Apocalypse Now was in 1979. The Vietnam war ended in 1973, I believe. That was within living memory as well.

We could argue whether AN was appropriate or even a good film, but my point is it's been done before.

True, but Apocalypse Now wasn't specifically 'about' Vietnam. It was an adaptation of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, that happened to be set in Vietnam. They both shared a broad commentary on imperialism and its effect on human nature. Aside from the setting AN is entirely fiction.

This movie is rather different - this is not a fictional commentary, but a fact-based dramatisation of specific events that took place 5 years ago, and that we are (to varying degrees) all familiar with.

We saw it on Saturday. There were no previews, it just started after the "turn off your damn cell phone" message.

This was the most intense, most emotional, and most powerful movie I have ever seen. When I saw "Saving Private Ryan", I had tears in my eyes at the end. During this movie I had to fight tears many times, and when it was over I needed several minutes to keep from breaking down.

The only flaws in the movie were nits I could pick. Some ATCs said it was a 767, not a 757. When they showed the plane taking off, it was an Airbus A320, not a Boeing 757. Some of the ATCs who were playing themselves stumbled a bit over some of their lines. Otherwise, this movie was note-perfect. The tension begins as soon as you hear & see a terrorist reading from the Koran. There is not a single frame in this movie that is exploitive. The terrorists are not cartoon characters. The passengers are not gung-ho heroes. Everyone is portrayed as a human being, for better or worse. The scenes on board the flight, you completely forget it's a movie, it's like you're there, experiencing the real thing for yourself.

This movie was like taking bad tasting medicine, or having to eat the vegetables you absolutely hate. You may not like it, but in the end it's good for you.

Keep in mind this movie was made with the permission and cooperation of the familes of the 40 victims of Flight 93. They would not have said "yes" if they felt for a moment it was being done for greed. Yes, the movie will make money. It should. When something is done properly, ethically, there is nothing wrong with it being profitable. The money we gladly paid to see this magnificent film is not filthy lucre.

Towards the end, with my wife and I clinging to each other, I looked around the theater. Half of the people were on the edge of their seats. When it was over, and the final title screen faded out before the credits, all you could hear was silence and sobbing. It was amazing and deeply moving.

If you have the strength, if you can stand it, I urge you to see this film. It'll take you to a place you really should go, although the journey will be painful and difficult. Bring plenty of kleenex, and you definately don't need to bother with the popcorn.

If this movie doesn't at least get nominated for a boatload of Oscars, it'll be a crime.

i just have to say that i am so tired of all the "conspiracy theories" that are out threre about 9/11... from cell phones not being able to work to the disgusting video being sold "disproving" the airplane attacks on the world trade center and that our government was behind bringing the towers down

these attacks happened... no ifs and or buts about it and anyone who has something different to say can come to my house and smell my clothes from that day (yes i still havent washed them) and then i can introduce you my friend the firefighter who lost half the guys of his firehouse and then went on to spend weeks digging through the rubble...

i know people are entitled to their opinions but sometimes they dont realize that those opinions are a slap in the face to those of us who were right smack in the middle of the whole thing

I'm sorry if something I said upset people. I was just trying to offer a different point of view (even if it wasn't mind, and I never once said that it was). I guess some people think too much with their emotions to consider a different point of view.

again, i apologize

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Fuzz..

I wasn't necessarily talking about you. BUT I don't think its wrong for someone who was in the middle of downtown NYC to "think too much with their emotions" where this topic is concerned.

Yes people are entitled to different points of view but not at the expense of insulting someone who lived thru that day first hand. I've seen too many of the "videos" claiming 9/11 never actually happened.

Again, sorry if you thought I was attacking you personally. Was not my intention. Just wanted to get that point of view across for those who may not realize there are people on this board who lived that day up close and personal.

thanks Cari, I appreciate that. I don't think it's wrong for you to think with your emotions, not for someone who was there.

and I don't believe in those conspiracy theories, but it has made me think and dig for info.

I don't think it's wrong for anyone, on ocassion (and this wasn't just any old day!!!) to think with his/her emotions. It happens...and that's also not a bad remark toward what you said Fuzz..just made me think about that. We all know we should be rational, logical people, but sometimes, in certain situations, it's just not possible. That's how I feel about that day..and I WASN'T there. M.

I saw this movie yesterday and I can't explain to you the level of dissapointment I had. I also saw the A&E version which was far better.

The one in the theaters put more emphasis on the terrorists and the FAA than on any passenger. Most of the passengers remained nameless in the movie and there was sooooo much violence in the movie as well.

In the A&E version, it was very tasteful as they put a personal spin on each passenger.

I am the type of person that cries at a Hallmark commercial. I used a whole box of kleenex during the A&E version, I didn't shed one tear during the other one.
