Financial Aid and Visa Stamp

So I just applied for an MS degree and after attending two classes, have been told that my financial aid application was not approved as the entry stamp on my passport (with the CR1 visa) is not clear. The year is 2005, however, the "5" has been cut off from the top. Long story short, because I cannot prove that I entered the country after the age of 26 and therefore am not required to register with the Selective Service Commission, I am facing issues with getting approved for financial aid. Right next to the stamp page is the visa page, with the issue date and expiration date of the visa, which would clearly prove to anyone with a reasonable level of intelligence that the visa must have been used within this time period. But not to these guys.

Anyway, would anyone be able to tell me what options I might have? I am going to call the USCIS Phoenix office today, see if they can help me.

Have you spoken with Selective Service yet? They can provide you with proof that you did not have to register if you send them a copy of of your entry permit or other supporting documentation showing the day you entered the United States.

Your Green Card gives a date you are a resident from, that is normally the date you entered the US on your visa.

Yes, I did. Selective Service told me to write them a letter along with a photocopy of the passport page, which has the visa and the entry information. But I fear I am going to run into the same problem with them as well. They said they could not do anything till they have "reviewed" my case.

Does anyone know whether there is a way for me to have my "Welcome to America" letter reissued. I have been told that would work. I am going to try and call USCIS today.

You are right. But GC dates are acceptable neither to SSC, nor to the financial aid office.

What about your welcome to america e-mail?

Did you have any immigration paperwork to complete when you were in the US. My hubby came on a K1 so in his AOS application we had to send a copy of his passport, K1 visa, and I-94. I see you filed for CR1/IRC, so I don't know if you had anything to fill out once you go here. What about your original paper work from your embassy, does it have your interview date?

Better yet, do you have your boarding pass from when you came to the US? Also, if you paid by credit card, check your statement, it make list the airline with details of your flight. I booked my hubby's ticket with a chase credit card...I was surprised at the amount of detail on the statement.
