Declaration of how you met in person in the last two years. What exactly should I write and should I write on a separate sheet of paper? How long should it be? Thanks

As per the Guides' Step by Step..

#4 Declaration of how you met in person in the last two years. This should be a single typed page attachment regarding question 18 of the I-129F. Make sure to sign and date it.

Most folks find there is not enough room to adequately describe their first meeting on the form and have to use a separate sheet. As to what to write, that depends on your specific meeting. It doesn't have to be a novel, just simple facts (time and a place) - perhaps you would write it like you might describe it to a friend or a family member...

Yes...what I did was write a few paragraphs sketching out how we met online, then exactly when and where I met in person - I gave as many dates and names of places as I could. It's not exactly clear how much detail is required - if you read the RFE thread, seems some people have been given RFEs for fairly lengthy, detailed letters and others have been absolutely fine with a lot less. I'd just try to be as specific as possible.

I wrote a single paragraph and stuck with the facts. I listed dates from when we met online (which I don't think were necessary), and dates from when we met in person.

The shorter the better. You are filling the "must have met within 2 years" requirement, nothing more. Don't turn it into a love story or a shopping list of your entire trip. Be factual, be concise. Quantity is not quality on this document.

I fit my whole story into the text box provided. "G & I initially met at a business conference in Chicago in Sept. 2004. He subsequently visited the US on the following dates...I listed them all out. I visited G in the UK on the following dates...and listed them out"

That is all I put that fateful day last July and we are nw happily married living in the US!

My advice, keep it short and to the point. They don't need the schmaltzy love story. They just need to know that you have, in fact, met in person within the last 2 years.

You don't need a whole separate page. I wrote 2 sentances in that box. Here's what mine said:

"I met my fiancee in a bar/discoteque in San Jose, Costa Rica on 2/2/06 while I was on vacation with a college friend. We stayed in touch for a few months and started dating when I returned to Costa Rica in May 2006."

And as evidence, I included most of the boarding passes from my 10+ trips to visit her in the last 2 years, so they knew we have seen each other more than once.

So I'm guessing this is fine....

Nathalie and I met in person in San José, Costa Rica on 02/01/2008. We stayed in San José at HOTEL NAME until 02/03/2008. We then traveled to Tamarindo, Costa Rica where we stayed at HOTEL NAME until 02/09/2008 when we traveled back to San José, Costa Rica and I flew back to the United States.

All we put was " we met online in a game site in May 2006, I went to visit UK in September 2006, then in October 2007. My fiancee will come to the USA for Christmas and new year". To that we added boarding passes and pictures

Sounds good to me! Good luck!

Read the question.

How you met............

You should briefly describe how you first met....such as online, in school, on vacation. This answers the actual question, which is partially asked to determine if the petitioner will need to further explain the IMBRA questions.

Follow 'how you met' with describing how you have fulfilled the requirements of meeting within the last two years.

The first part of the question 18 is "Has your fiancé(e) met and seen you within the two-year period immediately receding the filing of this petition? Y/N?" Then (in the same question) it goes on to ask details about how you met. I guess it won't hurt to say we first met online. I was planning on doing that originally...but didn't want to put in information they didn't want.

I seriously can't remember the last time I was this nervous about filling out paperwork.

Just a suggestion.

Looks good, but that I would add something like this at the beginning of that statement, "Nathalie & I first met online (or wherever) on xx/xx/xx. We stayed in touch by phone/email until...."

Just so they know you didn't just meet last month and then decide to get married, looks a little shady.

If you don't have enough room, you could leave out that you stayed in SJ for 3 days, then went to Tamarindo for a week, and then you returned to SJ and flew home.

Here's what I would say:

Nathalie & I first met online (or wherever) on xx/xx/xx. We stayed in touch by phone/email until we met in person in San Jose, Costa Rica on 02/01/2008. We spent 8 days together travelling throughout Costa Rica and then I flew back to the United States.
