Hello,

I had my interview yesterday in L.A.! The person took from me…

The original of the affidavit of support.

All the joint bank account’s printouts.

Copy of the lease.

Copy of the marriage certificate.

He asked about health insurance. I told him I’m covered thru my wife’s work.

In the “confusion” I totally forgot to show him my “Kaiser” card.

At this point he said that he has enough documents and everything looks OK but he has to run a

BACKGROUND CHECK. He explained that I’ll have my GC mailed to me if everything is OK or an invitation for a second interview.

After that…

My wife gave him a letter from her employer and 3 pay stubs.

I gave him a letter from friends stating that they know us.

He didn’t want anything else.

Now…… Can somebody tell me please, if this BACKGROUND CHECK and the “mailing me the GC” thing is a standard procedure or I’m facing troubles???

yoji,

i would say that they are just waiting for your background checks from the FBI to be completed. once that is done (and the results are fine) then they should mail you your greencard.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink!

I understand that this turn of events happen -- not to a lot of people, but it's not a rare exception either. If you search the old forum for "background" you'll probably find a lot of stories on it. It may be over fast, but may drag out as well.

Found this one, for example:

I agree with Matt just need the checks to be completed. Once they are completed they will contact you. No one can tell you the time limit on this process. Good luck and hopefully you will have the gc in hand soon.

Yoji...

All should be well....

The FBI background checks are backed-up and this could be an unfortunate and unwelcomed delay.

Hope all goes well for you!

GOOD LUCK!

Same happened to us and all bunch of other people here as I have read.

I have been told the same. After we complete your background checks you will get the GC.

Mind you that our interview was October 6th, 2005 :(

Meantime my original EAD and AP expired so I have E-filled again... however not soon enough.

My EAD is expired as of yesterday however my employer decided to ignore the fact as long as I have already filed for new one... BTW besides getting new fingerprints done nothing happened on any of my cases...

You might want to get ready for a wait...

Best of Luck

That sucks that it's taking so long, Luc. I hope you get the approval soon. It's good that your employer was understading.

That is really scary!!! My EAD (what is AP??) will expire on 09/26/06; I don’t want even to imagine that I won’t receive answer by then.

BTW, it is possible that the answer will be denial or rejection not only invitation for a second interview??

A denial is unlikely if everything else was in order. I've not read of cases on VJ, where after background check, USCIS issued a denial. I think it's just the wait that you have to go through, which is by itself pretty bad.

VJ is Visa Journey (this forum)

NOA is notice of action (receipts you get from USCIS)

AP is advance parole (travel document you use to enter the US while your I-485 is processed)
