Jumping the gun here...

My hubby and I haven't even sent off our I-130 yet (I'm the beneficiary), but I already have a question concerning the DS-3032.

Of you Canadian spouses, who did you choose as your agent? I know that typically, the USC is chosen...but did some of you actually find it better to appoint yourself the agent? Just trying to figure everything out at once...I know, one day at a time!!

Thanks:)

We both live in Canada, so it wasn't really an issue for us, but I will give you the living in Canada point of view.

The biggest factor in how long your application will take at NVC - generally - is mailing time. It's not just that it takes so long to get the stuff delivered, it's also that NVC can be quite slow in actually getting something out the door - which is why James's shortcuts are so popular. I don't remember which form it was, but it took them 2 weeks to actually mail it - according to the date printed on the letter vs the postage stamp on the envelope.

I think that, understandably, if you choose yourself as the agent, you can expect that things will take longer to arrive - just because the mail is making its way to Canada.

Other than that - it's not an issue really.

I don't know if you have looked at James's shortcuts yet or if it's something you are interested in doing, if not for each step, then for some - but here is the link to them:

Oh - and personally I don't think you are jumping the gun - by the time your application gets to NVC you will want to have as much information about that process as you can
