Pancreatic cancer is a death sentence. I posted yesterday about a 47 year old professor that is dying from pancreatic cancer. I think Steve McQueen had it as did Rex Harrison. My father died of it back in 1959 from running a tire recapping service. Ugh

Lung cancer patients have a 3% survival rate, even lower than that of pancreatic cancer patients.

Actually, only some forms of lung cancer have a small survival rate. Small cell lung cancer being the nastiest AND the quickest from diagnosis to death. My mother died from SCLC.

Well I hope it isn't true for his sake, however pancreatic cancer doesn't need to be a death sentence although the survival rate is not high, generally because it is often discovered too late for surgical intervention.

A very good friend of mine was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a year ago. She underwent surgery and they removed the tumour. What often happens is that the tumour wraps itself around the arterial and venous blood vesselssupplying other organs in the abdomen. They were able to completely remove her tumour as while it had start to wrap around, it hadn't infiltrated the blood vessels yet. The surgery was incredibly painful - I guess any surgery regarding the pancreas is - and then she underwent 6 months of chemo after she recovered from the surgery as there were 19 lymph nodes also affected. Last October she was pronounced cancer free. She had a long and slow time recovering from the chemo but now, a year later after her diagnosis she is more or less back to normal. So, if Swayze has had surgery and is undergoing chemo there is still a chance that he can defeat this thing. Let's hope that the rumours of its spreading to other areas of the body are not true.

That is hopeful about your friend being pronounced cancer free. My ex has pancreatic cancer and it has been very stressful

on my children.

Hey I hope he makes a recovery. From what I heard the localization is fairly limited but with any insulinomas its difficult to tell due to the high degree of vascularization of the pancreas.
