Millions of Muslims have protested the cartoons peacefully. There are plenty of countries were protests have gone on and no violence has broken out. Hundreds, maybe thousands, have participated in rioting and violence but millions have not. This is no way excusing the actions of those who did commit violent acts, but why is it that the actions of the minority are reflecting the majority?

You do have a good point. But you have to admit that this minority of violent protestors are not making it easy for the majority of muslims who are in fact peaceful. That is what I find so sad about this whole thing.

I absolutely agree with you. I think people in general (Arabs, Americans, etc) are far to quick to paint "others" with a broad brush than they do themselves. We don't allow the actions of a few nutty Christians to change our view on all Christians, and we certainly don't expect all the peaceful Christians to rise up and protest against them. However, this expectation is often voiced about Muslims "why dont' they do more, why don't they speak up" etc.

Indeed. I still have muslim friends after all of this, and they would rather not be involved in any of this. And I don't blame them, I wouldn't either. But what would happen if some muslim or arab leaders cried out against the violence? So far I have seen no reaction to that, although I am sure that some leaders already have denounced all this violence. This wouldn't be the first time in history that people have not listened to reason.

Not sure what my point is here, just sounded like something smart to say.

This is no way excusing the actions of those who did commit violent acts, but why is it that the actions of the minority are reflecting the majority?

Oh, I quite understand that there are many peaceful Muslim. I'm friends with quite a few of them. I was simply pointing out that while there are people claiming that the religion is about peace, the fact that there is a noisy and violent minority will have far more of a negative impact on the religion, and the religion will be represented as such because of people acting in this manner and also calling themselves Muslims, when they are not follwing it's teachings.

What I find the worst is these "peacefull" Muslims are not only burning down buildings and being violent, but that they are also being violent towards firefighters and police officers whom are only doing their jobs. I find it particular offensive to be attacking the firefighters who could some day save the lives of them and their families.

IRAN'S largest selling newspaper announced today it was holding a contest on cartoons of the Holocaust in response to the publishing in European papers of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

"It will be an international cartoon contest about the Holocaust," said Farid Mortazavi, the graphics editor for Hamshahri newspaper - which is published by Teheran's conservative municipality.

He said the plan was to turn the tables on the assertion that newspapers can print offensive material in the name of freedom of expression.

"The Western papers printed these sacrilegious cartoons on the pretext of freedom of expression, so let's see if they mean what they say and also print these Holocaust cartoons," he said.

Iran's fiercely anti-Israeli regime is supportive of so-called Holocaust revisionist historians, who maintain the systematic slaughter by the Nazis of mainland Europe's Jews as well as other groups during World War II has been either invented or exaggerated.
