Oh, I haven't posted in the movie thread but I am an avid movie-watcher (my local cinema has a monthly subscription plan - for the price of less than two adult tickets per month I can see any movie, any time, as often as I like) and see maybe 30-40 movies a year so I am always very happy to offer up recommendations.

Oh yes please, go ahead!! The last good one that I watched and that touched me was called "Once", an Irish film about a street musician. It was beautiful and the music excellent. At the moment I am more into watching comedy, so I watched Channel 4's Black Books again, oh it still makes me laugh so much. Have you seen it?

Now seriously, if he takes care of the bills, why do you want to? I find it great that Charles is the one who worries about that. I know I have to know how to do it just in case in a distant future I'll have to do it by myself, but for now, if he wants to do it, great.

he doesn't take care of the bills, i do.. but whenever I bring up the bills he says he will take care of the bills (which he never does ) I just want him to be aware of what is coming and going etc.... he spends most of the money without asking me what needs to be paid etc..

and when I will tell him "hey, we don't have money for that" he gets a ll pouty...

But when you get a job, that will definitely help out. He probably spends it because he makes it & feels entitled to a bit of fun...

yeah I know and I want him to have fun... but after all the bills are paid first

actually we will have less money coming in .. he is going to part time hours because he wants to concentrate more on school....

looks like he's terrible with finances. I think you should sit with him and discuss the way you guys handle finances and that you feel that some changes should be made. Make a spreasheet or even handwrite ayour budget. On the top you put all the money you guys make monthly, followed by the bills that have to be paid and the amount of money you will have set aside for that. Then establish an amount of money you will be spending monthly with things like food, gas, recreation.

Then tell him you should discuss all the major expenses beforehand. Establish an amount of money that you guys don't have to report to each other, like if you wanna buy something that costs 40$ u don't have to talk to him about it, but if it's something let's say $300 then yes. And that you have to stick to the budget, you can not spend more than the amount you established for things that are not priority, like bills.

this is what I want to do ...lol but when he does try to budget he sets such unrealistic goals...

i think it is from how he was brought up... his family wasn't rich or anything but they usually got what they wanted and they would constantly be eating out etc...

i just do't like feeling like the bad guy when I say we can't buy this or that....

yeah... i am just stressing out because we have a lot of medical bills right now and some of them are threatening us with collections.... and hubby goes and gets cash back all the time I know he isn't the only one to blame for the money spending.... but I do try and cut back and the only money I really spend is on groceries...

i am just worried that even with both of us working there is barely enough to cover the expenses never mind the medical bills...

it is the same person julie! the first one actually looks almost identical to my grandma and the second one looks like what her sister looks like last year when I saw her. the guy in the background in the first one is almost definitely her son charlie

Charlie looks like fun How old is he?

And Alex - I love arthouse movies, now I wish I wouldn't have *ehm* wasted my evening on the internet again. I should have watched that movie!! I should see if you recommended any other movies in the movie thread, maybe I can find some new films to watch!

charlie is really fun but he's a dr now. he is so fun he ended up not being accepted into medical school in the US because he got a dui in college and had to go to school in the caribbean. he had a really bad mountain biking accident like 4-5yrs ago and was almost completely paralyzed for a long time. had to relearn everything.

I just asked my mom and she said oh yeah that's totally her!

Yes - I love Black Books! It took a little while to grow on me admittedly, but it has some classic moments.

I haven't seen Once, but I'll certainly look out for it.

Sometimes it's really nice to just curl up and watch an episode of a comedy series before bed - lifts the spirits! I find I prefer black comedy - light/romantic comedy doesn't usually do much for me.

Marilyn - I hope you receive good news on the job front! And it must be really hard with regards to the money - I know I find it very, very awkward myself when asking Alex about money he's been able to save. It's his money, and I really don't want to/try hard not to tell him how to spend it, but I also wish that he'd sometimes exercise a little more care.
