Internet movie rental company Netflix suffered a site outage beginning at 7 a.m. PDT Monday, and the company doesn't know when it will have the problem fixed, a Netflix spokesman said.

Customer service personnel told CNET News.com that they were told the site was undergoing routine maintenance when something went wrong, information they then passed on to customers. That is incorrect, according to Steve Swasey, the company's director of corporate communications. He said he couldn't discuss the causes but that it had nothing to do with site maintenance.

"Our engineers have been feverishly working on repairing the problem all morning," Swasey said. "It was an unanticipated, unplanned outage and we apologize to our customers."

Site outages are typically no big deal as any company can suffer one. But a blackout that lasts for more than an hour is rare, and one spanning several hours is rarer still.

Netflix, which has 7 million subscribers, continued to ship DVDs after the outage began, though its unclear whether the problem will eventually affect the company's entire database, Swasey said. This means it's possible that users might see some delays in receiving movies. He added that customers needn't worry about their stored movie picks. None of their information will be lost.

so hubby's work seems to be coming around a little bit... they said they would be willing to let him work Friday to Sunday for this semester and when it is over go back to full-time..... hubby told them that the fall semester will be similar to this one though... anywho, they said they would let him know for sure tomorrow...

i told hubby that by the fall he probably could find a air conditioning job anyways....

Breakdown Knocks Out Netflix Site

LOS GATOS, Calif. (AP) — Online DVD rental leader Netflix Inc. is suffering a technology breakdown that's knocked out its Web site, inconveniencing its 7.5 million subscribers.

The outage could mean some customers will have to wait longer than usual for their next rentals.

Company spokesman Steve Swasey says the trouble blocked access to Netflix's Web site about 7 a.m. PDT Monday. The site was still down in the afternoon.

Swasey says DVDs that normally would have been mailed Monday may not go out until Tuesday because the problem also has hobbled some Netflix distribution centers.

Netflix is based in Los Gatos.

you know what sucks ... the neighbors have a dog and we are not allowed pets in these apartments... the dog is kind of yippy too... he doesn't bark at night though which is a good thing, I guess...

ugh god I feel so crappy. I took a really long really hot shower until the hot water ran out. I felt good while in the shower and now I feel ####### again. I can't wait for Neil to have to go to work so I can go to bed. I'm so tired.

well I should say the dog isn't constantly barking.. just once in awhile... I guess I am more upset that they think they can have a dog...

we are also not allowed to smoke in the apartments but every time you walk by their place you can smell smoke pouring out of thier apartment.... they think they can get away with anything

I don't want to report them because they are my next door neighbors and who knows what they would do the lady is a busy body and she would probably find out who told on them...
