Speaking of taxes, I got my letter yesterday informing me about the stimulus rebate.

we got ours on friday or saturday but why the hell did they feel the need to send 6 of the to the same address? couldn't they just send one per family. what a waste of freakin money!!!!!!!

my uncle said he asked his accountant about it and you do infact have to pay the amount back next year NOT just pay taxes on the money. he said it's an advance on next year's refund you would be getting. I'm so confused!!

From IRS.GOV:

Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?

A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount this year but you do next year, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received.

Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?

A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

Chicken breast is nasty. I always use thighs to cook. I know it's fattier than breast but I figure it's better than beef or lamb (right?).

I don't even like thigh meat! I hate legs because they have all those tendons and stuff ick. I will only eat the breast meat. It's nice because when I cook dinner at my grandparents Neil and I eat the breast meat and they love the leg and thigh meat. We never have any problems. Maybe I will just make a whole roast chicken? I wonder if there are any in the freezer in the garage. I guess I should decide soon for thawing purposes.

Speaking of thawing has anyone ever heard someone say they're going to "unthaw" the chicken or beef or whatever? My mom says that and I'm like ugh mom if you're unthawing it that's the opposite of thawing which means you're freezing it. She still says it. #######?

Next year, those paying taxes will be taxed on the "rebate" as regular income. Those who don't make enough income to be taxed will not. Does that still make it a rebate? At least a partial one for taxpayers. But it's simply a handout for non-taxpayers, not a rebate.

That information is incorrect. See IRS.GOV post above.

ARSES! As for cash I think Neil is strange because he says he doesn't feel right if he doesn't have cash in his wallet. He gets $40-50 a week in cash that he hardly ever spends but it's for stuff like beer. The rest of the money goes into our joint account. Normally we just pay all the bills, do a bit of shopping, groceries, etc and then try to resist spending the rest of the money and put it into a saving account. Lately I've been taking money out of savings to pay bills because I went a little overboard on the clothes shopping a few weeks ago. I think I might do what my mom does and give my grandparents any money I want to save because like my mom I have a hard time saying no when someone asks for something. If the money isn't there to see then it will be like it doesn't exist (I hope).

Yup. I put away a lot of money into my 401k and principal prepayments on my mortgage. It's money I never see, so don't miss.

oh good to hear! I'm going to try it starting this week. I'm also selling stuff on ebay mainly culinary school stuff that I didn't even use in culinary school so why keep it? I figure I can keep the money on my paypal account and save it because I won't use it if it's there. It's just a little extra.

doing the same thing here. currently matching principle payments with additional principle, knocking just over $500 a month off the note.

Maybe its a Brit thing, cos Griff always wants to carry cash, whereas, I'm always like, we can just use the debit card. I have a bad history of losing cash, though.

I don't see that as a good thing. That's one of the reasons I have way more control with money than with credit cards. CC you don't see the money, plus you can just spend, indenpendent if you see a $20 bill or not. With money, if I'm some place and I see something I like that costs $40 but I only have $20 in my wallet, I just won't buy it, does it make sense? Now with a CC I can, and that's when I can lose control.

So I always have the money I know I'll be spending in my wallet (we take off our account weekly grocery + gas + other expenses like pharmacy, etc) plus I keep $50.00 that I never spend, my ''oh chit money'', for occasions like I forgot to take gas money from my account and I'm running out of gas. My CC is only for emergencies, which never happens. Even when I want to buy clothes I usually take an amount of money from my acount, my budget and I spend that or less. I never wrote a check anywhere. That's how I handle finances. Works great.
