dang, I just found out that the first aid course I need to take costs around 50 bucks so hubby prolly won't do the class with me because we can't afford 100 bucks for both of us... I really didn't want to take the class by myself... and then I need to get scrubs which will be more money...

Construction. I can't post right now so I'll get back with you in just a little bit.

ah ok. it turns out i've got a shower to rebuild after this weekend.

Anyway, he does construction and he used to work for a contractor. He was the foreman of a crew but got laid off. Instead of going back to work for someone else he decided he'd do his own thing. That's fine but it's really slow going right now. He was approached by a really big company to do framing for numerous houses. First of all he doesn't have any experience pricing a job on his own. Second of all, he doesn't have a crew, which he would need to do the job. He does have insurance and everything. He doesn't have the means to pay a crew even if he had one since it's been so slow getting started. The type of crew he needs would be hard to find around here anyway. Like I said, it sounds like an awesome opportunity, I'm just not sure he's up to it just yet. I don't want to seem like I don't have any faith in his ability because I do. I just think this is a bigger bite to chew than he realizes it is.

I'm not sure I want to ask but why do you need to rebuild a shower?

i agree with your assessment of things - although he may have the experience he does not have the capital to take that job. and he might find himself sued or blacklisted if he took it and couldn't complete it.

shower had a leak between the tiles, nessa hit that spot this past weekend and the wall gave way. bleh, more money to spend on her bathroom now.

I've been dieting a lot but I have put on a pound a day for the last week. #######? It better be all the sodium in the lean cuisines.

Alex, minor fluctuations in weight are normal. Anything from one to three pounds is considered fine and nothing to worry about. Our weight changes throughout the day, based upon what we eat, drink and how much we eliminate from our body. It's quite remarkable how much water content (including urine) and feces can add weight as well.

What can also make a difference is how much clothing you're wearing while you're on the scale. If you're on there naked versus being fully clothed, you're going to see a few pounds one way or the other. So if you normally weigh yourself naked (for instance), don't get on the scale with clothing and compare the results.

Finally, only use the scale as a guideline. If your clothes fit as they should, then who cares what the scale says? The scale can't tell the difference what type of weight you may be carrying -- it doesn't know if you have more waste material built up inside of you, excessive bloat, extra muscle or actual fat. All it knows is the total number, which really means nothing unless you have the details to go with it. This also explains some of the failings behind the BMI as well.

Sorry if this has been longwinded, but I've been dieting and exercising most of my life. I can put on weight by looking at a cookie. I have hypothyroidism, which dramatically slows down my metobolism. That makes working off calories extremely difficult sometimes.

You are exactly right. I told him that too. I think he's looking more at the opportunity it could be and not wanting to pass it up. He has sorta the same offer from a smaller company just on a smaller scale. I think he should do the smaller job to get the experience and maybe another opportunity will present itself on a larger scale later.

Uh oh on the shower. We had the exact same thing happen to us. It turned out to be a lot more expensive to fix than we had planned on. Thankfully Javi can lay tile so he did it himself. After tearing out the tile we realized they hadn't built the shower correctly to begin with. So we had to tear it out completely, even re-pour the floor. It was very aggravating. I hope you have better luck than we did.

i don't think it will be that expensive if i just repair it. that's taking off the tile, replacing the board, and reseating the tile. although i am considering just redoing the entire shower, which then will be significantly more expensive. this is the same shower i just replaced the mixing valve on about 6 months ago, so the handles and shower are good.

I'm depressed. Last week my boss's, boss's boss told me I would be getting something I'd asked for, more responsibility, as part of a reorganization plan for our unit. At the time she said all of the details hadn't been worked out and my job description would be rewritten, and it was a while before the changes would take place, but I was glad, because I'm kind of at a dead end in this position, but like what I do and now I'll just be doing it for at least twice as many people. I thought, hmmm, this could be a promotion. Our complany states that if you get 25% increase in duties, you are eligible for a promotion.

Well, I was talking to my boss this morning about one of the concerns I have with the change I got the distinct impression that there was going to be no money increase with this.

Right. That's exactly what we were planning on doing, just replacing the board and tiles. Unfortunately we found the cement floor under the tile was completely shot from water damage. So while Javi had all the tile and everything off the wall he just decided to redo the whole thing. We tweaked the design a bit and all in all the shower is amazing. I absolutely love it now. I hated it before. I even resorted to using our guest bathroom at times because I hated the shower so bad. Actually, I think I have a picture of it on this computer. If so, I'll post it.

this one isn't on concrete, it's on the second floor and i'm fairly confident the leak didn't go too far. but i'm thinking taking the tile out and replacing it with a different material will make it easier to clean.
