Good Morning. I can't believe we are back to another Monday <_<

Congrats and Happy Birthday to Shauna!!! What a wonderful weekend for you

Well my weekend didn't go as planned. My mom was out of town and she is my grandmother's primary advocate while she is in an assisted living home. Anyways my grandma was having a lot of trouble so then I got to step in and play my mothers role alongside my aunt. Trust me it is disgusting the way the elderly are treated :ranting: I just can't believe it. My grandma gained 10 pounds in 4 days and not one of the nurses noticed. Her belly was all extended and her ankles were the size of her thighs. This happened on Wed. so my mom threw a fit and got my gma on some new meds and the docs told the assisted living people that my gma was to be weighed every single day to make sure her lungs weren't filling up with fluid. Anyways I get a call on Friday night that my gma gained 4 pounds in ONE day and she was already on a double dose of the meds. Ugh it made me so mad. The nurses then tried to convince my gma that it was her fault because she wasn't going to the bathroom enough. She called my crying on Saturday telling me about how they keep telling her to go to the bathroom but she doesn't need to go. She was having all this trouble breathing and was turning blue - while on full oxygen. She asked if she should go to the hospital but the damn nurse told her there was nothing the hospital could do that they couldn't and she just needed to go to the bathroom and she would feel better. My gma was so distraught she called me and told me she was going to drown. I was furious. I channeled my inner Gill and went and had quite the talk with those nurses  How dare they make my gma feel bad for something she can't control. I can't believe the treatment she is getting and my family is paying so much for her to be in this place. Can you believe it is one of the top facilities in our county?!? Imagine the care she would be getting elsewhere...unbelievable. So if you could all keep her in your prayers that they can find a way to stop this fluid from collecting in her lungs that would be great. I know she probably doesn't have a lot of time left on this earth but I at least want her to go out comfortable and well taken care of. Thanks (F)

So anyways that is how I spent my weekend. Not what I expected but glad I could be there for my gma. Hope you all had a good weekend.

Yardie, do they have her on Diuretics?

My grandma used to go through that all the time. Sadly, there was little they could do for her. My grandmother was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. We saw a lot of near misses near the end of her life and most were due to the fluid building up.

Yeah we call them her "water pills" so I am guessing they are diuretics. My mom got back last night and talked to the docs this morning. It seems my gmas body isn't really responding to the water pills as well as it used to. It is taking larger and larger doses to get the same effect. She has a pacemaker and her heart is only working at a 1-2% level...the pacemaker is doing the other 98-99% of the work so we know that time is nearing but gosh it is just so hard to watch :(

I know. My Grandmother died on May 1, 2007 after a lengthy stay in a nursing home and in and out of the hospital. I did thank God it was fairly quick (she took sick in January) and she didn't appear to suffer.

I'm so sorry for you. I will add you and your family to my prayer list.

Yardie, hang in there. I had to care for my grandmother and it takes a lot of patience, but they would rather you help them vs the caretakers in the assisted living places.

Thanks JG and Sunny :) While it is hard at least I know that I have spent time with her and truly know her. I feel bad for her own kids that live in the same county and see her only once or twice a year. They are really going to regret it when she passes. At least I can see her pass knowing that she knows I care and love her and am there for her.

Jamie...after reading what you and your family are going through with your grandma....sounds almost like what my family went through with mine....my grandma really couldn't get around that well but yet the nurses claimed my grandma was going around and stealing other peoples hearing aides....they would take their good old time changing her sheets....and sometimes they forgot to give her meals....they changed her to another room for really no good reason and then she got depressed and stopped eating and passed away she had been at this place for 9 months before she passed...my mom complained all the time and things would seem to have gotten better but then go back to they way it was....it just shocks me how these things can go on....

Ok I am headed off to lunch but had a topic I wanted to throw out there...

Would you still file AOS or removing conditions for your spouse if things in the marriage didn't work out between the two of you? Take out all the factors of them just coming for a green card and all that. It was a genuine bona fide marriage but it just didn't work between the two of you. Would you file to let them stay here?

What factors would or wouldn't cause you to file for them?

(Please don't read more into this than there is in regard to my personal situation...I am genuinely just curious and wonder what others would do in the situation.)

I don't think that I would simply because we were no longer together. If the couple has really tried to make it work, and it just hasn't, then there would be no need for me to continue to have any responsibility in regards to his staying here. It would be the same if I married an American...if we tried to make it work, and it didn't...then I would want to sever the ties completely and negate myself of ANY and ALL responsibility towards him. If I didn't, then we might as well just be together. There's too much risk and responsibility involved, especially in regards to the immigration issue.
