I am so happy and excited for Wakey, if i was her, i wouldnt sleep a wink tonight, i know my anxiety would be in full swing, so my brain wouldnt shut off...LOL.... she is probably beside herself.

congratulations again to you Wakey

Hey Asante,

I thought u have to get married in the US

A dat mi a seh Kimmy. Now, if what she's saying is you get married in Jamaica after the interview (will) USCIS know about it. That I don't know. I say, have a party like we did. It was beautiful. I would not change a thing about the way our immigration process went.

USCIS can be made aware of it. it is not illegal. I was even planning at one point to marry in JA. If you need a second opinion, you can post the question in a new thread in order to get other VJ member's opinions and experience.

It will only take a second of your time and people are really quick to respond.

Good luck! :star:

Thanks, i appreciate it.

Hey Ladies, that is kind of what i am planning, we will get married officially in the states in front of a JP, but im kind of planning a commitment type ceremony, where his family can be present and a few of my friends and family. I can do it on the beach, and still feel like i had something special.

Honey;

That sounds nice. We had a party, actually too many parties. The engagement party was like a commitment ceremony for us. It was beautiful. Don't know if you've every watch the sunset from Doctor's Cave Beach in Mobay. Whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be beautiful.

I'm still thrown with the getting married in your home country after the interview and visa is in hand. As it may not be illegal (as Ashante says)...I just seems (not sure what word to use)...whatever you decide make sure we see the pics.

Anyone know what part of California Marlita lives in? North or South?

I think she is in LA. I don't have her number...I would have called to check on her with the earthquake and aftershocks. I'm praying that she is okay.

Dear Lord,

I'm coming to You now in prayer that You encircle Marlita and her family (and all those that we don't know to pray for specifically) in Your loving arms. Protect them, give them shelter and encouragement that even in the midst of the fire You are still with them. Have mercy on those that don't personally know You or Your Son, and let them feel the comfort of Your infinite Grace. Ours is not to question why for the earthquakes, floods, and other wordly destruction...but to have Faith in your glorious wisdom. When three or more are gathered in Your name, we should consider it done. We give you all the praise and all the glory now and forever. In Jesus' name. Amen and Amen.

You can still get married in JA even when file a K1. Upon visa Approval, You can travel down to JA, have your wedding and then travel back to the US together. Many people do that. There is a girl on the Sub-Saharan forum who filed a K1 and is in Ghana right now preparing for her wedding in a few days. If you have anyone in JA that can help you with the planning, you can start collecting all the materials you need. It is very possible! I say go for your dream wedding :thumbs:

Please refrain from peddling mis-information.

YOU CANNOT marry BEFORE arriving in the States on a K1.

I would advise you to go and do some RESEARCH before ADVISING people. Do you have any idea how much your INCORRECT advice could set someone back????

it seems kind of conflicting, because the K1 is a fiance visa right? lawd, lawd, were just going to have a commitment ceremony/party and get married here in Michigan in front of a judge and you can guarantee not one pic will surface during any kind of interview or as evidence to the embassy...mi nuh crazy...lol

If you choose to apply for a K1 visa, DO NOT marry before the visa is approved and you enter the U.S. Marrying will make you ineligible for the fiancé visa and you will have to restart the process to apply for a K3 visa.

OH MY>>>>LOL...

Honey;

I'll see if she'll tell me, as I don't remember everything. I just know that it was an issue when she filed for OAS. All I remember is it cost a lot of $$$$$$$ with lawyers and headache, because she was given bad advice. Her lawyer told her there were gray areas to the immigration laws. Not sure it that's one on them.

1. Can I marry my fiancé(e) overseas and still bring him/her on a K-1 visa.

A: No. K-1 visas are available only to persons who are planning to be married. If the marriage occurs, you will have to file an I-130 Relative Visa petition for your spouse. The one exception to this rule is that if the marriage was religious or social ceremony only, and the marriage wasn't registered with the local government, a K-1 visa may be issued.
