Morning all!

Welcome back Honey!

Classy, sorry to hear about your roommate troubles -

I had an interesting weekend - I went to Great Adventure to see Machel - traffic was chaos and it ended up taking us over FIVE hours to get there! We basically went to the show and came home. Machel was incredible as always - He brought out his kids "from all over the world" (as he put it) for one song - 5 beautiful little girls, although looking suspiciously close in age, lol :o . Then he did his song, Unconditional Love - he stopped in the middle and said he had received an email about it, and he wanted his friend to come up and explain his email - Called this guy to the stage, and he proposed to his girlfriend in front of everyone - it was so sweet and so beautiful!

Also had a new adventure with DJ and his phone - He dropped it in water (again, lol) - so he had it near the stove trying to dry it out - Which worked, but he put the chip back in and apparently the phone was hot from the stove and it melted the chip :bonk:

Sus,

I wanted to go to the show. That was really nice of him to allow that guy to propose. WOW!

Now what number phone is this? lol One thing about a JA man is that they know how to dry out a cellphone. You know how many people in the states get charged for ordering new phones because when they send it back using the insurance the company finds out there's water damage. (Water damage is not covered by insurance) All we have to do is lay it out in the sun, blow dry it, or cook it (DJ) and it works......

I actually dropped my phone is a tub of salsa. It didnt work for a week or 2 but after it fully dried it was fine. It doesnt vibrate anymore. I think I go thru phones the way u guys men go thru them. I have all kinds of crazy stories about dropping phones. my friend dropped hers in the toilet  .....it still works, haha.

Jomo,

I'm on it. I've been looking at the fees and forms that lay ahead and trust me, I'm planning for them right now. Needless to say, my bonus from work is already accounted for and I haven't even gotten it yet. As much as I would like to use it for other things I will be putting it into the fund for our filing fees. I actually opened up an extra account with the credit union so I could have something separate from my regular account to handle all this. Just insane I tell ya...I'm sure I will have plenty of questions as time goes on about what lies ahead..

It's just not that.....forms and fees. You will find more things pop up that you never thought of before.

If I were doing it again, I would say, we'll save up and go back when we can. He came in June. We said September. We said December. We said, maybe next Christmas. It's been over 2 years. Now, we say, if and when we can save up....................Something always comes up.

Lawny,

I keep telling myself he will be fine. He is sounding more chipper each time we talk. Saying things like, "how's my sunshine".

Both of us being able to put back money and save over the past year is what has helped us get thru this process as well. He's really good at saving $$$$. Then in early April he was laid off from his job, but thank goodness he had money saved in order to help get him thru.

TY;

I don't know about others here, but my SO and most of my friends in Jamaica are able to save ALOT more money that I'm able to in the states. As I explained to him and most of the friends I have back home that the houses that they live in is paid for so no need for rent or mortgage payments (all they pay is utilities) which for most of them don't even equal $150/US a month. So, if I was able to save $500/US a month I would be set. He hasn't had sticker shock yet. He's just amazed at the size of the grocery stores. The malls to phase him much he just says a lot of confusion. His first shopping trip with me was to COSTCO and of course he was like WOW. Oh, did I tell you he gained 10lbs in 1 week. Can't really tell cause he's a beanpole. He's been a they gym for 4 days now and it's GONE...WTH why can't I have it that good :crying: if I look at a piece of cake my belly adds 40lbs.

Marlita.....that's why I said we need to pray for her. I think she has used up all options too. And, I think she will be in a deep pickle if she gets back without any word.

Good vibes all...............

Girls, just remember the expenses do not end once he arrives here.

Don't make any promises about trips back till you see how it goes.

JG ---

That is so true. I wrote that in my handbook back in January along with the discussions about phone calls, bills, etc....

It took my SO 3 days to figure out the bus system. Now, he's gone shopping again and he's joined the gym. I told him be better no spend off the money he brought from JA with him cause we're going to need it. It's going to be a while before you're working.

VETSSSSSSS

I'm getting advice from friends that have recently filed AOS (about 3 months ago) to wait, because USCIS is backed up. What do you think?

What does waiting do, Tre? Just puts you further back in the line.

It comes and it goes, you know. Very hard to predict.

I agree. I guess I'll be filing August 1st then. No point in waiting. Another question........why the hell does my job bother to give me a bonus check then TAX the hell out of it? I'm thankful, but come on now. I guess I'll have enough to buy an extra roll of toilet paper.

ditto Shrewdie I would contact my local senators office about this maybe they could help. Your in my prayers.

I think she's exhausted all these possibilities. VSC has completly stopped processing CR1/IR1 to focus on just about every other visa first so there is a TON of people waiting there.

She should make a personal appearance to USCIS. I suggested that before. We've had to make several trips to our local USCIS to get answers and so far, it worked. The hardest part if not knowing what is going on....

She needs to do that. I feel so bad for her and when she comes back to no changes she's going to be so upset. I'll pray that something comes through for her.

Jomo,

I know. I don't want to admit it but it will probably end up being the same way for us. But its always nice to hope..

Sounds good.

Lawny,

Amen..I tell my SO that all the time. He wanted to know if I had saved any of my income tax money and my last bonus check. I had to explain to him that it isn't as easy to save because I have way more bills and responsibilites than he has. And your right, he has no house note. Only utilities. His car, paid for..He was having a fit one time about his electric bill saying it was way to high, this was after the hurricane that hit last August, I asked him how much it was, when he said $50 (U.S.) I laughed. Told him I'd love to trade with him. Try paying an electric bill thats twice that amount. He about died when I told him gas was about $4 a gallon.

The amount of taxes taken out of my last bonus check would have made a nice bonus check for someone else. I remember when I told my SO, he was like what! That's not right you need to talk to someone about that. I laughed and told him its called taxes or paying Uncle Samm.

Exactly.

His house phone equals to $8.50/US a month and the international cell phone is $15/US. I don't even think his electric bill reaches $20/USmonth (only if he uses a/c) which he never does. Water is $6.00/US a month. I can't remember the others and I'm like you're complaining. His mom is in a nursing home because of a stroke and he gave his brothers strict instructions on how to spend the money he left in the account. They've already lost their minds. I told him this would happen, but he says when it's done it's done. I told him to pay the nursing home directly and not depend on his brothers. Thing is some people back home think that once you reach the states that you start ROLLING in the DOUGH...

Same here, people at my job are always saying let me put my exemptions up so that I can get all of my bonus money. I'm like it doesn't matter because that check will still be taxed at that high azz rate.
