What do you guys think about Jesse Jackson's comments about Ob's Father's day speech?

I may be bias  but...I'm sorry sometimes we as Black people don't want to hear the truth! Bill Cosby said the same dyam thing about Black Dad's stepping up and playing a role in their children's lives as few years ago and was darn near crusified for it!

Barack is a child of a single mom...so if anyone can speak on this matter he can!

What are your thoughts?

Mawin Gill;

Don't be sorry. I feel the same way and it's the TRUTH! We had a discussion at lunch yesterday and people can't believe that BLACKS discriminate against other BLACKS. Just like some Jamaican can't stand to be around other Jamaicans. When we were in the courtyard at the embassy waiting a lady was there with her 3 adorable sons and she was fussying because Marcel and another young man were the only men that got up to let 2 women have their seats. She turns to her sons and says "see, look at all the men out here and only 2 got up to show some manners and that Jamaican men are the worse and that when the get to New York to do their best to get rid of their accents." I know me and my BIG mouth so I all I said was (you really shouldn't say that)...they should be proud to be a Jamaican and proud of their accents, which they may lose when they enter school. I said no more (because, Marcel kept pinching me on the side of my neck).

Unruly Gal/Gill,

Its so funny on Wednesday morning he seemed to be doing everything he could possibly think of to prolong taking me to the airport. He fooled around so much that I even had time to make breakfast. Then once we finally leave the house he makes 50,000 stops. The bank, gas station, picking up friends along the road to give rides etc. When finally I had to say, "sweety you know I don't want to leave you and all, but if you make me miss this flight, we are going to have some problems..He then looks at me and says,,,"Okay, okay, okay!... Gill you remind me of him saying hush..He tells me that all the time.

Unruly, I think I've kind of mastered the not crying part now. Although it feels like I'm leaving my best friend or a part of me behind everytime I leave him..Its like a huge lump in stomach, almost makes me sick.

Ty, you are better then me. I never mastered it. In fact, when we left JA together, Horace at Margarittaville in the airport said "this is the first time I've ever seen you when you weren't crying." It's hard. And, yes, we've all been there. You guys will survive. Just keep the faith. Your time is coming.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Ty, I can totally sympathize, I think we all can - Last trip, my flight was delayed - which we found out after we had parked the car and it started torrentially downpouring. I finally told DJ to leave - I couldn't handle standing around with him anymore because I was totally losing it.

For some reason, I am having a much much harder time being apart this time than others - It just seems like it has been forever - I was even trying to search out flights to see if I could get down there for a weekend, but with my work schedule right now and I am having surgery at the end of the month, by the time I can actually go we will be going to the Bahamas. I am just so frustrated to be in this holding pattern, and we can't even file because the friggin court system takes so long in Jamaica - I feel like I am in a the mode of - hurry up and wait so that we can hurry up and wait again!

Island woman,

Thanks! yes I did have a good trip. Actually got to spend some time with the inlaws as well. Its so hard for both of us

whenever I have to leave[/b. He's already called me this morning. But prayerfully he will be here within the following weeks..

Tymoore -- that is such an understatement... I definitely feel you about how hard it is to leave your SO ! I just left JA on Tuesday and I cried at dinner the night before I left, I cried in the morning when we woke up on Tuesday, I cried on the ride to the airport and I cried when we had to say goodbye at the airport. Everytime I started to cry my SO would start to tear up too-- we must have looked crazy to the people around us, but I couldn't help it. It definitely doesn't get easier to leave.

No chica...it doesn't! I feel it for you...I remember those days...leaving SUCKS!!! Hush...he soon reach! Keep the faith and for now keep the memories of him warm in your heart! "This too shall pass!"

Looking back I think the time apart made us appreciate each other all the more!

Hang in ther Sis!!

Bless,

Gill

P.S.- Welcome back Ty Baby...so happy to hear about the date! 8/19 is my son's and sister's b'day! It's a good day for an interview!

:ot:

Wow Gill, my oldest daugh and my sister's bday is on the same day too!!

TY; that seems like yesterday. Every time I left Marcel in Jamaica the morning that I'm leaving we would go to beach for an early dip. I always check in early then go to "Dead End Beach" to eat and drink a little...but mostly to talk. We would just sit there and put our foreheads together. He would hold my head in his hands and tell me don't cry think about how exciting it will be to see me again. I was so blessed to be able to have him fly back with me. They gave him a farewell party and I've never seen so many grown men cry. His older male friends who have been married for many years gave us a little notebook with quotes in it that help to keep their relationship in check. I thought it was so sweet. It was different love stories of how they met their wives and how to keep the FIRE BURNING. I read through the entire notebook while waiting for our flight to leave on 4th of July. I'll have to admit, I do find that "our" -- Jamaican men are the best lovers and the little notebook they gave us back it up. At the end of his party they sprayed us with champagne and I was  because the night was early and I was still trying to look FLY  Oh well, then they sprayed us with whipcream...that was it I was ready to cut someone, but it was all in fun.

Thanks ladies for the encouragement. I've found that keeping myself busy helps the time pass faster. And with school right around the corner, I'm scheduling classes now. School definitely keeps me busy. But on a different note, I do have a nice weekend planned. I have some fam coming down from Cleveland tomorrow. Another family member owns a nice classy little upscale nitespot here. He use to play for the Dallas Cowboys. He's home now and just had to have something to do so he opened up this spot. Well we are going to tear da club up tomorrow night and kick it. My cousin is bringing her Jamaican boyfriend with her. She talked about me when I first got with my SO then she turns around and finds one with the same nationality. Anyways, they are off the chain, so I should have a pretty fun weekend...We'll be home when the sun comes up! ya mon!!!!
