Congrats Lawny! I read about your interview. I'm trying to get my SO prepared. He goes to his medical August 4th and Interveiw August 19th. He's nervous. So nervous he dreamed about it while I was there. I'm praying he does well. I tried to put everything in order for him before I left yesterday. Then I keep quizzing him on questions... Keep us in your prayers for August 19th..

Welcome back Ty.. i know u guys got everything together for the big day w/ a lil bit of funtimes in between  .. another approval is on the way!

I don't know about Queens, but I live in the Bronx all my life and if you want a motel we got you covered... ....we got like three hotels located in the Bronx area...there are some really nice hotels in the westchester area, like Whiteplains, which is not to far from the bronx that are much much better...here is a link for the 3 hotels in the Bronx...I seen all of them from the outside not inside though and they don't look all that appealing but it is really really affordable...

http://new.york.hotelguide.net/hl1bx.htm

This link is for a hotel in westchester that is like only 20 mins to maybe an hour depending when in the bronx you are staying...where i live i'm like right on the border of yonkers and the bronx (north bronx) so this hotel is only a 20min drive from me...if you are further south bronx than it might be an hour drive...its the marriott and its really nice...

Island woman,

Thanks! yes I did have a good trip. Actually got to spend some time with the inlaws as well. Its so hard for both of us

whenever I have to leave. He's already called me this morning. But prayerfully he will be here within the following weeks..

Lawny,

I think I will tell him to return and pick it up himself. He doesn't live very far from MOBAY and it will just give me a better piece of mind as well. I have everything organized for him in a nice file folder he can retreive it and add it to rest of his info.

I think we call can sympathize with you on that.... :crying:

Because he's...........Black

To whom much is given, much is required!

This older white guy asked his older black friend, 'Are you voting for Barack Obama just because he's black'? So the older black guy fires back and says, 'Are you not voting for him because he's black?

Why can't I vote for him just cause he's black? Hell in this country men are pulled over everyday just cause their black, passed over for promotions just cause their black, considered to be criminals just cause their black, but you don't seem to have a problem with that ..

This country was built with the sweat and whip off the slaves back,! and now a descendent of those same slaves has a chance to lead the same country where we wasn't even considered to be people,

Where we weren't allowed to be educated, drink from the same water fountains, eat in the same restaurants, or even vote, so you damn right I'm going to vote for him! Not just because he's black,

But because he is hope, he is change, and he now allows me to understand when my grandson says he wants to be president when he grows up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal,

Because he sees, understand, and knows, he can achieve, withstand, and do anything just because he's black!

Tymoore -- that is such an understatement... I definitely feel you about how hard it is to leave your SO ! I just left JA on Tuesday and I cried at dinner the night before I left, I cried in the morning when we woke up on Tuesday, I cried on the ride to the airport and I cried when we had to say goodbye at the airport. Everytime I started to cry my SO would start to tear up too-- we must have looked crazy to the people around us, but I couldn't help it. It definitely doesn't get easier to leave.

Funny thing about this is, people really do beleive that Black people are voting for Barack just cause he's Black, which in turn makes others think they shouldnt vote for him just cause he's Black. I dont know why people dont see how Blacks actually dont see race as much and many people may think we do. I think it comes from being a minority in this country. We are always few in numbers so its not a big deal to worry about seeing different races than our own, that most of the time we dont see it (race/skin color) at all. But I think people who are in the position of not being a minority (the majority race or culture) see race a whole lot more because for them its much more of an odd thing to see a race that is different from their own.....does that make any sense?

I should be a disclaimer that some of the stuff you MAY not be able to get his name on till he has his EAD or AOS anyhow. Most of our stuff is from after his green card came 5 months after I filed for AOS because we were unable to get his name on any bills, bank accounts, etc. till after. But, AS SOON as any sort of joint paperwork or statements come in, start saving them.

I promise you it will make it easier for you when you are where I am now.

Yesterday I was able to add his name to all the utilities (cable, gas, electric) and my bank accounts (they asked for his passport). We also got him a photo ID card for the state. They wanted something with his address on it and I told them he just moved to the country and they asked will he be living with me and I said yes and that was it. I should get his health insurance card next week. Where I work you're able to add a DOMESTIC partner immediately they change it to spouse after we get married. What else am I suppose to be working on?

Mawning Fam,

Thanks for the help yesterday everyone! I passed it along!

I also added Ken to my bank account, cell & house phone accounts, life insurance policies, 403b plan, and utilities! And once homeboy decides to get his driver's license  ...he'll be added to auto insurance also!

Good heads-up, thanks JG and sounds like you & Andre are 'Good tuh go!!!'

Bless,

Gill

Lawns,

Don't know too many in Qns or the Bx...but if you are willing to travel about 20-30 mins east you can get some good rates in Nassau & Suffolk hotels! If looking at sites use ZIP code 11550 or Airport code ISP. Try hotwire..they honestly haven't failed me yet!

Bless,

Gill
