Sus,

I agree, i was trying to book for October, as i try to get to JA every 3 months, while me and SO figure out what were doing, and i swear the fares were pretty outrageous. Now is it me, or did it used to be that the earlier you book your flight the cheaper it should be? And then im scared about going in october since they are stating this year is supposed to be a bad hurricane season.

Anyhoo, My SO gets his stitches out of his noggin today and seems to be sounding and feeling alot better...YAY, so when i see him next week, he will be functional and not requiring me to baby him the whole week...LOL

I swear, Honey, it has something to do with the midwest too. I can't ever seem to find the really great deals people elsewhere seem to get. I think part of it is our connecting flights.

Well, woo hoo.....I just made our bus tickets to Chicago in November. We are going to stay with Mindy for 5 nights. I'm so excited. $27.50 for both of us to go round trip. How cool is that?

On a sad note.....this sickened me today in the Gleaner. WTH is wrong with people? http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/200...lead/lead1.html

Hey JG,

Have you every tried Worry Free Vacations? I have gotten great deals in the past for air only with them. They are a bit high these days with the price of gas but they are still lower then the main carriers. Plus they are a direct flight.

I have looked into them. Their times do not work for me a lot of times.

.....I had to laugh today....I just got a Happy Birthday e-mail from Delta. Wondering if they miss me?????

Today your birthday JG?

Nope.....the 28th. They are a little early on the wishes.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

It is a mob scene of people - Last year there was a shooting a block from where we were - the year before someone tried to jump onto a float and someone on the float shot him - Too many people, too much alcohol around, and too hard to get out of the way when there is an issue.

there is no alcohol allowed or sold on the parade route anymore

Yeah JG, i read that in the Gleaner too, that was unfortunate. It does suck that our fares are so high, i check all of the websites for a cheap flight, but no matter what i cannot seem to get a good rate. Domestic flights i normally use priceline, but with international i dont want to be at the mercy of the airline to fly at whatever odd hours they decide to give.

I find the best airline deals on hotwire.com. Flycheapabroad.com was also a really good one. I can usually find the absolute best rates going to the airline's website directly...esp delta.com. AJ will often offer better rates via phone than their website. Hope this helps some.

Regional debt to be written off if Obama becomes president

Wednesday, 25 June 2008

Democratic candidate for President of the United States (US) Senator Barack Obama is promising 100% debt relief for the Caribbean if he becomes the next leader of the US.

Senator Obama's foreign policy advisor, Dan Restrepo told officials attending the Caribbean Tourism Organisation meeting in Washington DC that this is one of the policies to be pursued if Senator Obama is elected to office.

Mr. Restrepo also spoke about Mr. Obama's intention to facilitate trade between the US and Cuba.

He said the presidential candidate would personally lead direct diplomacy with Cuban officials.

According to Mr. Restrepo, Senator Obama understands the unique security challenges of the Caribbean and that the issue of trans-national crime is of great importance to the region.

As a result, he has promised to restore funding for drug control programmes, which were cut by the George W. Bush administration.

Did you get this from the Gleaner today? I can't click the link from this stupid home computer.

If you did read the story in today's Gleaner, did you notice how much of a small% this amount above actually is of the entire debt? Mind boggling.

Here is the link: http://www.radiojamaica.com/content/view/9372/88/

I'm confused...I read 100% debt relief. I took it to mean the entire debt would be taken care of.

:blush::blink::wacko:

This is the story I was referring to......

http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/200.../business5.html

I apologize...I totally forgot that the Caribbean is not soley indebted to the US. DUH!:blink::whistle::rofl::bonk:

OFF TOPIC )))))

Hey all....question about the AOS. Someone just PM'd me and asked this and it got me to thinking. The question was..."How long after we get married, do we have to officially File the AOS?"

I'm thinking they give us a certain amount of time to send the AOS packet in once you're married but does anyone actually know how long we have??????

Secondly, they asked whether or not their fiance would be able to "keep" his job while waiting for the permanent EAD.....once the 90 day work permit expires? I told her it probably would be up to the employer but that more than likely, her fiance would NOT be allowed to continue working and would have to wait to get the EAD in the mail. I've heard of some people getting "RE-Hired" once they have the EAD but how likely is that????

Anybody have thoughts on these topics? If so.....PM me with what u know or write back :)

Me & dave are in the same situation when the time comes, so any info would be helpful! LOL

Hey Nish,

I believe you have to file before your K-1 expires otherwise you become out-of-status. I'm not sure about the EAD, but I think you have to stop working if you don't receive your EAD in the mail before your permit expires. Where are all the VETS?? Seems like if you get the stamp at JFK, you should get married right away in order to file the AOS and have the EAD back in time.

It says in the guides that you should try to file within the 90 days to protect the legal status, but others have filed after that period expired without problems - See here:

http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1k2visa-aos.html#6.1

The thing to think about is that he loses his EAD when the 90 days expires, so the sooner the better so that he can continue to work.

there is no alcohol allowed or sold on the parade route anymore

That's good to hear - I saw so many drunk people in the past. I am not a crowd person anyway, but drunks in that big of a crowd is a recipe for trouble.

There is no 'set' time.

TECHNICALLY, you are out of the status the minute you get married.

But overstays are of course forgiven.

I would try and file at least before 3 or 4 months though.

Ok, as for the EAD stamp. No it is NOT legal for him to continue working once it's expired.

But as far as he goes, the USCIS forgives working while not authorized.

Re-hiring all depends on the employer.
