An update about Mike. He was approved for the visa on Thursday. He told me that he did not go inside because a lady was at the front collecting missing documents from people. She took his passport and sent him to pay airpak. So I guess he will be here soon (I hope).

:thumbs::dance: :dance: What a relief Claire...hopefully he'll come soon.

Makes me realise how much I miss being around Jamaicans :(

My first visit to JA was just a few years ago but in my subsequent visits I've come to love JA and the people there. I miss the friends I've made over the years and the island itself. But I do live fairly close to a large JA'n community so when I need a little "taste" of the island I'll go to a "football" match and it makes me feel little better. But there's nothing like the real thing :star:

Shauna :( ...sorry. If you want to talk send me a PM. I'm starting to pack for a trip but I'll be back next week. You have a beautiful daughter (who is still absolutely beautiful in pick BTW :luv: ) and returning to school will keep you busy; but that still doesn't erase the pain.

His loss...

Congrats, Claire! What a relief!

I had a chaotic day yesterday - I went to NJ for a babyshower, and then was about to call Sunny to try to link up with her - I barely left the baby shower when a bee flew in my window and stung me in the cheek! I stopped at a rest stop and got the stinger out and ice, and drove home with ice the rest of the way - But my face still swelled and looked ridiculous. I took Benadryl, and have slept most of the day today.

JAEng, love the carnival pics = I haven't been to DC's carnival yet - we do NY every year, and I have been to the one in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Boston, Caribana in Toronto - SO much fun. I love the floats and the costumes!

Same with me - I have been on the couch all day with some kind of stomach virus. I just wanted the travel channel with the 10 best beaches in the Carribean - Mobay was 10 and Negril was 3. Of course, watching that made me "homesick" for JA.......

Hope you get well soon Sus.

And Happy Birthday Andre and Happy Anniversary Andre & JG!! Your VJ family won't forget you.

Jaylyn is getting baptized tomorrow. My DH got freaked out about the dress. She will be the 8th generation to be baptized at our little church out on our farm. I am hoping she does O.K. she hates water. Then we have a reception for her at mom in dads in the burbs. We need to get to sleep early tonight I don't know if that is possible. Are schedule is so backwards. Last night we grilled jerk chicken and ribs so she is so messed up on time. I hope everyone else is having a great weekend! :star: 4 more weeks until she gets to meet her

Jamaican Grandma...

aaww that is soo neat!!! Take pics of her!! I think i am going to wait until fall to get Kaila baptized....

Thanks Shauna. We had to baptize her now because I wanted her to wear my dress and little coat and hat. But across the coat and hat were to big but she fit into the dress. I wore it when I was 2 months olds. I am so exhausted now. I will hopefully get pics up this week.

JAENGLISH lovely pictures of the festival

Here is our Caribbean festival in Chicago coming up. My friend is the bass player for Baby Cham. I don't think we will be going because of the baby. But here is the site if any Chicago lurkers are out there. http://martinsinterculture.com/ifol.php There is also a Independence Day festival coming up in August. http://martinsinterculture.com/caf-jic.php

Hey girlie,

Oh, we had a wonderful time. No word from Kingston yet, but I talked with Lawny on Friday and she said they seemed to have gotten behind again. Ugh!

So, the wait is on...................

Regional debt to be written off if Obama becomes president

Wednesday, 25 June 2008

Democratic candidate for President of the United States (US) Senator Barack Obama is promising 100% debt relief for the Caribbean if he becomes the next leader of the US.

Senator Obama's foreign policy advisor, Dan Restrepo told officials attending the Caribbean Tourism Organisation meeting in Washington DC that this is one of the policies to be pursued if Senator Obama is elected to office.

Mr. Restrepo also spoke about Mr. Obama's intention to facilitate trade between the US and Cuba.

He said the presidential candidate would personally lead direct diplomacy with Cuban officials.

According to Mr. Restrepo, Senator Obama understands the unique security challenges of the Caribbean and that the issue of trans-national crime is of great importance to the region.

As a result, he has promised to restore funding for drug control programmes, which were cut by the George W. Bush administration.

Did you get this from the Gleaner today? I can't click the link from this stupid home computer.

If you did read the story in today's Gleaner, did you notice how much of a small% this amount above actually is of the entire debt? Mind boggling.

Here is the link: http://www.radiojamaica.com/content/view/9372/88/

I'm confused...I read 100% debt relief. I took it to mean the entire debt would be taken care of.

:blush::blink::wacko:

This is the story I was referring to......

http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/200.../business5.html

Congrats, Claire.

Sus.....wierd story. Are you better today? I hate bees!

Bellwin.....I personally never tire of baby pictures. I hope the Baptism was wonderful!

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip
