Now I am just chillin'.... I can relax now! Phew!

Now I can make some solid plans... Then the anxiety will go up again right before the wedding though! My mom and dad will be in the same place for the 1st time in at least 25 years! oh boy...

I am just not very "ladylike".

I also think Louis and I are very much equal partners. But thats just the way we mix. We all try to make the best out of our relationships and there is no 1 right way to do things. I have a "friend" trying to tell me how my marriage is going to be (having never even met Louis) ... I just can't wait to prove her wrong!

Exactly, IC. I've had people telling me for the last 4 years that I need to be more passive. Time tells a different tale.

JG ... PASSIVE?????? I've never met you, but from what I know here ...PASSIVE doesn't exist in my world. My ex wanted a PASSIVE woman...that's why he's my ex. He would tell me I need to sit back and let him get in the driver seat; and when I do that, something falls apart or don't get done. I can't deal with that. I want my man beside me...if he can't keep up...he needs to step back and let me take over. When things are okay...maybe I'll let you drive a little. A lot of men have problems with women who are STRONG and can take care of themselves. I can't play the helpless sheep in the lion's den. I just can't. It's breed in me. I've always been hard worker even when I was in school. I always did things way ahead of time, so I would not stress over it later.

I'm worried that's how our ceremony will be. Mom is not really saying anything bad she just gets real quiet whenever I mention plans. I think she is still hoping and praying that I'm just going through something. NOT

I was listening to a talk radio show and they were discussing Male and Female roles in a successful romantic relationship.

A Jamaican woman came on and said that the reason our relationships don’t last is because woman try to be equal to the man in the relationship. She said that woman could be respected but never considered equal to a man. She gave examples of what she meant by saying we “women” should never pass gas around a man, never let him know when you have a monthly, or never let him know when you go to “doodie” etc. She said all Jamaican women are taught this and that why their relationships last.

What are your thoughts?

that's funny. My husband felt the same way when we first got married. He still has a problem with the "gas" thing but he'll have to live with it.

I have heard that as well from many women. Not my philosophy at all. It sounds like something legend.....can't say I totally believe it is in practice much anymore. If someone wants to believe that and live like that then more power to them. It would not work for me.

Her mom said the guest didn't understand the music...which was funny because the dance floor was packed when reggae was playing...the DJ did and excellent job with mixing the music...I helped them picked the music since the ground was a little older I left out all the hardcore reggae...choose more of the back in the day artist

Sounds like mama had an issue with the Jamaican culture being at the wedding at all. Har miserable!

A question for the veterans.....How long was your husband in the US before going back to Jamaica again for the first time?

My husband came here November 2004 and we went back to JA March and July 2006. He's going back this August.

me too! We talked for 2 hours yesterday just going through the binder and papers (for the millionth time). He was so afraid he was going to come across like and a#$. I told him not to worry and if he fumbled or got confused just to explain he was nervous and the truth would shine through. I let him know that when I was starting this and going through paperwork I felt very overwhelmed sometimes. I told him to explain he works at a TV station and paperwork is not something he deals with. I am sure he was fine. He s polite and charming.. and have you seen his smile??? LOL Who can resist his sincere smile???!!!!

I will get all the details asap!

Well there you go. Her jabs were at the ex not her daughter's wedding but letting everyone know what she couldn't stand about him. sad really
