I don't know what to do anymore.......

The Embassy told us we would have our visa last friday, but guess what?....no visa and still today there is no visa. I talked to the lady at the Dept. of State yesterday and she assured me that the visas were printed last Thurs and she said the embassy in Kingston is very slow. I have tried to e-mail the embassy serveral times and no response from them. They hold people lives on hold like its no deal.

I married my wife 14 months ago and we did K-3 visa and she is still not here with me. I am so disgusted with the embassy that it just makes me sick. The Americans that work at that embassy, give America a bad name. They really need to fire everyone there and start over. I'm sorry, but I am so freaking mad right now that I can't see straight.

Thanks for letting vent.

Wow Jason, I feel your pain and frustrations but keep on them did you call airpek(sp)?

No, I figured they don't have it, b/c from what I read, they are pretty quick on getting them out. But, I will try calling them today.

It hurts me to see him slowly learning this lesson.

I feel your pain, and I know how hard it is to sit by and watch him go through something that hurts.

I used to sit back and be quiet. Lately, I've spoken up more and more. I can't let him be hurt anymore.

He called his mom Sunday. She said she's sick and needs to go to the doctor. I said why doesn't she go? He said, she says she has no money. I said, um.....free medical care in JA since April 1st. Andre said why would she say that then? Um....cause she thinks we don't know. Neverending. You can't even call your mom on Mother's day.........

Good evening everyone, I think we need to clear up what free medical care in JA means. The free only applied to the Dr's vist at the hospital and some clinics. All lab, xrays (ancillary services) vaccinations and medicine are still at a cost to the patient. If the patient is seeing a private Doctor at his/her office there is still a cost.

JA did not throw out the baby with the bath water. What I am trying to say is, there are still waiting periods (long lines) at all clinics. You can go to a clinic and a hospital and not be seen because of this because the waiting list is too long. ...... Or the Doctor (specialist) you need to see is not at the clinic today. I hope we all understand that there is no such thing as total free health care anywhere in the world. There is poor health care(free) or good health care ($$$$$). You pick your own prescription. Pay you might get good service, but if you want free you have wait for whatever they want to give to you. Yes, JA is trying to give it's people something and something is better than nothing.

Sorry, but if my mother was sick, I would move heaven and earth to get her some care.

Be Bless

Roxcie

Thank you so very much Roxcie for giving my fellow "Jamaicans" the real understanding behind this free medical thing here in Jamaica.

I just feel moved at times of how people seem to find all thats wrong or going wrong in Jamaica but hardly ever stop to give honor where honor is due. I must say that as a Jamaican im am proud of the step that the Jamaican government has taken to "try" and assist those of us who cannot afford to visit a private doctor because of financial reasons. (and might i add the big US of A is yet to put some level of normalcy to its medical care system). Think what you may about the medical care system in the Jamaica, but the government here tries very hard with the limited resources that it has.

I just wish and pray for the day when Jamaicans who have left here and supposedly goes to the where the "grass is greener" will not only see what is wrong with this beautiful country but will also spend some time to see the vast improvements that have also taken place here.

You all talk about crime about in Jamaica as if Jamaica is the only place that crime exists?????? I watch the news every evening and there is not ONE evening where i dont see someone being murdered senselessly in the great America.

Give honor where honor is, Jamaica like everywhere else in the world has its fare share of problems and no one government or small group of people can fix it.

Thank you.

Respectfully yours,

Jamaican Citizen

Kishmar,

Now with all of that being said, I have a question.... Can I send garden seeds, i.e tomatoes, pumpkins, corn etc and flower seeds thru the mail to my mother-in-law. I want to send her these things so she and the grand kids can grow a vegetable garden. I don't know where I can find the information about what I can send thru the mail to JA. I know you can't bring live plants in/out of JA, but can I send seeds?

ROXIE;

My daddy says yes, don't put it in your carry-on though, put in in the suitcase.

More power to you.

According to the reports, it's ALL free at the hospital.

That's a shame someone has to wait in a long line for free care. I'd wait a week in line if someone was going to give me something free.

It's easy to see how the money issue could quickly ruin these relationship...and I'm glad to see that I'm not alone...(although I wish I was because I know how much this sucks balls for all of us!!) I just hope that our men learn sooner rather than later who really has their best interest in mind...and that whether or not they believe it---family ain't always it!! I know my husband has a very hard time believing that his precious mother can be manipulative towards him---whenever it comes up I swear I always end up hanging up in order to save my marriage. Just this past weekend she made her mother (who is in her 80's) get up out of bed and go all the way down to his house, just show she could show him that his grandmother was hungry!! What kind of bullsh#!@ is that? He called me in near tears and ended up going out on the street looking for money to give to her. This, after he had already explained to his mother his and my situation and why we were strapped at this point in time. Do you think it mattered to her one bit? HELL NO!! RASS...

It will be a very hard lesson for him to learn. And, it will be painful for you to watch it dawn on him that this is happening.

No one ever said crimes and murders don't happen everywhere. In my neighborhood, 3 different crimes involving guns happened just last week. However, to dismiss the crime of Jamaica with the wave of a hand is a cop out. Per capita, it is the murder capital of the world. Something still needs to be done about that.

And, I was not dishonoring Jamaica in my tirade. I was going off on Jamicans I personally know who are driving me crazy. I have every right to do this because this is happening to me. It Has nothing to do with dishonoring Jamaica as a whole.

This, after he had already explained to his mother his and my situation and why we were strapped at this point in time. Do you think it mattered to her one bit? HELL NO!! RASS...

#1) Your situation has nothing to do with his family, nothing at all. Tell Mom to go and apply for housekeeping at a hotel...what do they want him to do, rob and steal??? and they shouldn't even be thinking like that, they were surving for years on whatever he could provide and yes times are hard now, but they will survive.

#2) speechless at her making Granny get out the bed and walk, she nuh have no neighbor or other family she can ask for help. I really hate to see injustice.

When I was out of school and broke i used to go and boil cornmeal porridge and eat, she is bloody out of order.

I was PISSED about granny too...I mean, I really don't understand why his mother can't work...he said it's because she has to look after his grandmother, but let me tell you, his grandmother can get around that house just fine, and all she really wants to do anyway is sit on her porch and smoke cigarettes or watch tv...even if she worked part-time, SOMETHING is better than NOTHING! And she's always always always asking him for money to go see somebody in Mo'Bay or to do this or that or go here or there to buy something nice for herself... On top of that she has a sister who lives AROUND THE CORNER from her (who by the way is a nurse), and she has several brothers in JA and sisters in brothers farrin...so there is absolutely NO reason why she has to be completely dependent on him! I get sooooo pissed that she makes him feel like sh## all of the time when he does so much for her...pays her light bills, groceries, water, etc...Mi aget vex when mi tink bout di ####### dat goes on inna family :angry:

If he lets them take advantage, they will.

It's easy to see how the money issue could quickly ruin these relationship...and I'm glad to see that I'm not alone...(although I wish I was because I know how much this sucks balls for all of us!!) Very sad situation. Ditto. We have the family money owes as well. My hubby becomes very depressed over his family's situation as well. They have to realize he can only do so much. What we can contribute is never enough. Or they fight over what money we do send. I keep asking why do you let this "family" who didn't think enough of you to help feed you and put clothing on you back, in fact gave you away; have so much control over you and your happiness? It's clear and simple to me. Send what you can. Call seh hello, wish them the best, but you owe them nothing. Brothers and sister not a problem. He has no sympathy for them. He tells them to get out an hustle and find work like he did, but his parents, esp his mother her comments hurt him badly. Your hubby cannot sacrifice his health for their happiness. I cannot believe these women call themselves.."mothers" It is really sad.

We are on the same page here. I ask Andre that sometimes.........why do you care so much about a mother who kicked you out of the house at age 11 and left you to fend for yourself?

Same way I survived, my girl. And when I didn't have cornmeal porridge a can of BULLY BEEF and white rice did just fine or a can of SARDINES. You know when I'm in Jamaica and I mention BULLY BEEF or SARDINE or CHICKEN BACK to eat I get laughed at. A poor people food dat!....well, mi still a EAT DAT, so I guess I'm still POOR

As a Jamaican MYSELF I'm hurt by this statement, but everyone is entitled to type as they feel. I don't feel that nothing that was SAID yesterday attacked JAMAICA at all. You're in Jamaica, right, not in the states as yet. If the tables were turned or when you get here you'll have a BETTER UNDERSTANDING. What we spoke of yesterday is nothing new and like I said have been going on for many, many YEARS. I love my country and plan to move back there in the future. My parents choose to come here, not because things were BAD IN JAMAICA, but because my mom came to go to nursing school in the states and my dad didn't want to be away from his young wife and we followed a few years later, because he wanted his family together.

True crime is everywhere, but it MAKES ME SICK to my stomach to watch my aunt who has lived and worked in Jamaica her entire life as a school teacher get robbed by the very people she may have taught in grade school. I MAKES ME SICK to my stomach, when people who have lived in the US, CANADA or ENGLAND return to Jamaica to live out the rest of their lives, but can't, live where they grew up in Jamaica because of CRIME. IT MAKES ME SICK to my stomach when people who were EDUCATED in the states return to Jamaica to start up a business and put back into the country, but can't because of CRIME! My girl it is what it is.

And, like I always say, if it happens to me, I have the right to say any damn thing I want about it.

Ain't that the TRUTH! Some people DO NOT UNDERSTAND UNTIL THEY'RE PLACED IN THE SITUATION.

I understand that. If it weren't happening to me, I would have a hard time believing it myself. Sometimes the words said are so surreal you think it must be some movie script.

Tre.....it's difficult. There are days I thought I would blow my freakin' head off from trying not to yell at someone. But, if you love Marcel.....and I know you do.....you will both figure out a way to make it all work for you. I always feel if there is really a need......and I do mean REALLY cause I have heard some stories......then, we will do what we can. I will never feel bad for how little it might be because we are giving from the heart and it is more then they would've had if we didn't give it. Once you reconcile it all in your own heads, it's easier to known when there is need and when you are being played and it's a lot easier to just say no.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

Be Bless

Roxcie

And, it will be painful for you to watch it dawn on him that this is happening.

all mi can tell oonuh watch out fi dem sweet precious mother-in law dere...oonuh kn ow my views pon dat aready :)

Yes, you are the president of my MIL fan club!!!!!

agreed!!!

Jason, I am so sorry to hear about your visa issues - I pray that something will happen and the visa will come soon! If I were you, I would bug the hell outta the embassy - email, email, email until it comes -

Kishmar -

No one here is suggesting that the US is perfect and that Jamaica is all bad - Yes, JA is making strides in trying to give back with the health care initiative, something the US is doing a poor job of - I have spent $400 in the past week between prescriptions and co-pays, and I have GOOD insurance - But, if you have no money, free health care and having to wait is better than no health care at all. It's not a perfect system, but it's something that is available.

Any discussion that I see here about the crime, etc... in Jamaica is mainly spoken about as it directly affects our families and those that we love - no one is trying to bash JA in discussing it, we are all concerned - by falling in love with a Jamaican, Jamaica becomes a part of us - what happens there concerns us as much as what happens here.

The reality of it is, though - Many Jamaicans don't see the day to day struggles that exist for us in America, and you will see more of it once you arrive here (not sure if you have visited or not, can't remember). What our families, etc... in JA see is that we are in JA and have the money to spend on hotels, airfare, etc... to get there - we might have name brand clothing, or bring gifts - What they don't see is that in order to do so, we have eaten Ramen pride noodles and tuna for months on end, budgeted our money, gone without luxuries,..... Clothes and things are more readily available in the US - but that DKNY top I am wearing was probably bought at a discount store, is 3 years out of style, and cost me $15 -

What I read here from the yardie family is not about people bashing JA - it's about people being frustrated with their own families greed, and fear of the crime that is affecting their personal lives.

Well said JG --

Marcel and we talked about it and how we're going to deal with it should it come up. His people, so far, are okay and I told him to talk to them before he leaves. Things are going to get very expensive and expensive really FAST!

I know his mom is going to need extensive care and physical therapy and that's going to cost and that's his main concern. He just wants to get here and start working, but I told him it's not going to happen right away. I even tried to talk him into staying a little longer since you have 6 months to travel after you get the visa and he said NO...he wants to be here with me, so the B#*CH of an AUNT he has his staring more problems. Because he refused to talk to his aunt, she's telling his family that I'm putting space between him and them and I'm like HELL YEAH...3000 miles! Girl, all I can say is I have my hands full. Do I want to throw my hands up in the air, sometimes, but I'm not giving up that easy.
