When you are in the 'nothing to declare line with 4- 70lbs bags, for a 5 day stay and the Customer Service person is looking at you like you must be crazy. Then you proceed to explain 1 bag is for shoes, another for make -up and the other 2 bags contains at least 4 change of outfits per day. All the while you are whispering under your breath, I will never bring another thing to JA that doesn't belong to me. At the same time hoping that no one wants to look inside any of the bags.

4 bags?! Which airline is that? Air Jamaica only lets me travel with two 50lb bags :crying:

The last time I went I had one suitcase with my things and the other with things my mother was sending for my grandma..rice, toilet tissue, tin food, the whole nine! Me did in the line a fret to rass. Luckily I got a nice lady who believed I needed so much things for a couple days

Travelling in and out of JA has always been an adventure for me - On my first trip ever on Air JA (and to Jamaica), we had the most bizarre experience on the return trip - I was exhausted to the point that as soon as I sat in my seat I was asleep. Some Jamaican woman woke me up to cross over me into the seat next to me - She proceeded to hand me her baby to hold while she went and got the rest of her family sorted out. I couldn't believe it - I was dead asleep, then next think I knew I was holding this chubby baby!

r u serious?? girl that is too funny, not only that she put her baby in a stranger's arms, but one that was DEAD SLEEP DWL.. how nice it must be to live in a culture so carefree, JAMAICA JAMAICA

It's funny, when I first went to England, I used to treat babies the way you do in Jamaica, ie if they are doing something wrong you stop them, or talk to them etc....Stopped that pretty quick

Funniest thing is when my son was two years old, we went to Jamaica and every time someone passed us in the street, he'd wave. They would ALWAYS wave back and say hi to him, men women and children.

We went back to London he tried that a few times they didn't even see him lol....

I have held people's babies while they went to the bathroom, or looked after them on planes etc.....Again, when my son was younger and I took him to JA just the two of us, I NEVER had to worry about him at the beach because EVERYONE would be looking after him, it's just a cultural thing, children are a GROUP project, not just the responsibility of the parents....

Have you travelled since the carry on restriction on liquids? How do you manage that? I am not too high maintenance, but I can't fit my stuff in a carry on!

Yes. I use solid shampoo, conditioner, soap, bubble bars, bath bombs, deos, and lotions. All from my part-time job....Lush. It's been a Godsend.

I hate it when I speed thru customs and then have to sit and wait for my bags. Then as soon as I have my bags load up on the trolly the nothing to declare line is long as hell

I usually travel American Airline, 2 bags free and the other bag at a cost, with the fourth bag being a carry-on that is busting at the seams, with a big tote bag as my purse. Paying also for all over 50lbs, cussing that I could have brought another plane ticket and had the extra seat to my self.

Solid shampoo & conditioner???!! Never heard of it - you rub it in your hair?

Sort of. You work it into a lather and then rub the bar and hands in your hair. It is a thing of beauty. I use it every single day.

Solid means a lot less preservatives and packaging. Better for you and the environment. Check out www.Lush.com. Look at the US part of the site.

Where do you live, Marie? There are Lush's all over the place. It's best to go in. As long as it isn't something solid we don't cut (like the solid shampoo bars, bubble bars, bombs, a few others) you can ask for free samples.

I wasn't offended at all - Just completely shocked - I grew up in conservative New England where you don't say boo to anyone else's kids. I like the attitude of a community raising a child - My friends and I are all the same - their kids all expect to be reprimanded from me, just as their mother would, if they do something wrong. The difference is that they all know I am also the fun auntie who brings candy and noisy toys.

There is now this new passport card good for the Caribbean Mexico Canada and Bermuda. It is much cheaper than a passport book.

I saw that and was actually thinking about it. But, I guess you never know what might happen in the next ten years so I went ahead and got another "real" one.

What if you win a trip to Fiji? Then you have to wait for a new passport to come

LOL! Mindy hehe

I asked today at the post office its only good by land and boat. Not the air plane. BOO HOO.

Oh I was going to say the Verney House Hotel is on Leader Ave. If you wanted to know exactly. This is where I stayed with my college for many years. Its a nice yardie place. Not many tourist stay there so its more of your local hotel.

Do you have a contact number for them? That price sounds right up my alley!

If you want food or anything let them know in advance and they will get it for you. But it is a Jamaican Hotel so its soon come. If you stay there just tell them a girl from Elmhurst College in Chicago told you about them. Good luck with your planning.
