DJ and my husband must be brothers!! LOL :blink: I lie to you not, I was calling my husband yesterday over and over...finally this dude picks up the phone and I'm like "I need to speak to Gregory." Phone hung up...Called back...same thing...This went on all evening...I get a call from my husband this morning saying his phone had fallen out in a taxi and when he went back to the driver, it was no longer there...I believe this is phone number 5...Sometimes I wonder how the man keeps up with the underwear on his a@#!

LOL - you made my day - it's nice to know that I am not alone in that thought!

Sus is that your wedding gown on your meez? :)

I just got an email from friend who her husband did an interview in Kingston. I was told that one of the officers (woman) refer to the ladies husband as "boy" can you believe this!!!!

Im so disturb by this i have heard of many horror stories but i did not believe until now. Have any body heard of these rude behaviour at the JA embassy??

I feel in my spirit that im gonna go on some fasting and prayers for these rude people.

Im so disturb in my spirit

Calling a black man "boy" in some areas will get you a beatdown around here too.

from Wikipedia:

Race

Historically, in countries such as the U.S. and South Africa, "boy" was not only a 'neutral' term for domestics but also used as a disparaging racist insult towards men of colour (especially of African descent), recalling their subservient status even after the 20th century legal emancipation (from slavery, evolved to race segregation, viz. Apartheid) and alleged infantility, and many still consider it offensive in that context to this day.

Thanks Kimmy, I'm hanging in there.

Island woman, I know about the distance taking its toll on us.. I was just there in January so its been about 3 months but by the time I get there in June it will be about 5... we do talk everyday on the phone several times a day... which is a killer on my phone bill...but I'm sure you all know what that's like.

Mrs, I live in nyc so I can fly out JFK, Laguardia, or Newark. I usually do a supersearch through travelzoo.com so I get search through all the major travel websites at once, I usually book with Expedia though.

If you go to Airjamaica.com they have specials - the one I bought is good till June 24th. Sale is $288 but of course once they tack all the fees etc it came to $380, but it was the cheapest I found for non-stop.

I know all about the phone bill!!! The best deal we found right now is Digicel international that gives 1,000 minutes for $1,000ja for a month. That will last us just about 2 weeks. Anthony bought a 2nd chip for his phone so we get that deal for the 2nd half of the month as well. That has been a big saver. For me to call him I buy Sprint prepaid phone cards. If you watch CVS, they have then buy 1 get 1 free every so often.

Ladies sorry to chime in on your conversation but I found that Rebtel at www.rebetel.com offers great rates from your Mobile. at 19 cents a minute, also you can assign a local number to correspond to their Jamaica number. Check out this web site. www.Rebtel.com

I talk to my husband at least three times a day, because like everyone else I miss him so much. We haven't file our CR1 yet, because we are waiting on the job visa. If that doesn't play out, I will go there for the entire summer and work via my own make shift satellite office. I just informed my boss of this and he just blinked twice and left my office. Ha Ha.

He thinks I am joking, but right now I am calling for my Sprint Mobile Broadband Connection Plan for my laptop.

I am a woman on a mission.

Good fo you Rox...I say GO FOR IT!!! All dem cyan seh is 'NO'!!! I WISH I could've don somehing like that!

Good luck,

Gill

Thanks Gill, a couple of hours later my boss came back into my office and asked me was I serious ? I told him that I was very serious, then he told me to submit a business proposal as to the how and what projects/assignments I would like to work on. Now this seems more like it, everyone is getting on board with my game plan. My boss does not know that I am married, since I only got married two months ago. I don't think I am going to let him in on this yet. I had spoken to him about doing some community service projects in Jamaica awhile back and he was very intrested in what I wanted to do. I had spoken about putting together a summer school program concentrating on math, reading tutoring and computer programming (tech) training. Focusing on the children in middle shool, I have worked as a volvuteer doing tutoring in these area before.

But my husband wants me to leave it along for right now, he says now is not the time. We are going to disagree on this, but I will not push to hard on this right now. I will wait until he is here in the USA with me.

hey roxie! If you start that in JA..totally let me know. I do community service there and I am a teacher so its definately something I would be interested in knowing about :)

Yea, I wish I could go there often but unfortunately I have a very demanding schedule at work and I can't take too much time off. I am planning a trip in june for a few days, been looking at airfare but it is ridiculous right now, the cheapest I've found is about $400 and up b/c I only like to fly non-stop. Its a bit cheaper with a connection.

It sure is!! I just paid $380 for a non-stop from JFK to Kingston. And that is after I drive 4 hours to get to JFK. :bonk: But I had to do it. It has been almost 6 months since I was there last and it was taking its toll on us, for sure.

I finally got Dave's ticket this week on Delta and paid $400 for his one way....JA to pittsburgh, going thru JFK. I think his plane "stops" in kingston on the way to JFK....probably the same flight u got! LOL

All the airfares are ridiculous right about now with these fuel prices. I could've flown dave straight to pittsburgh but no matter what...he would've had to connect somewhere.

oh my goodness! how exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey....Anyone heard from Shauna (nannygirl) about the baby? Sorry Shauna if u already posted...I might of missed it in the last few days. Hope all is well!

Shauna and likkle Ms...update

Kayla Leilani Francis made her debut at 12:18 AM (today), by emergency c-section. Shauna has been in the hospital for the past few days because her BP was up and the Docs didn't like that. Kayla is 8 lbs 12 oz and almost 21 inc long. Shauna had to have a vertical c-section because the little one was NOT ready to come out and was still tucked up so far and they "vacummed" her outta there.

She's tired and feeling good. The baby is great ! Shauna will remain in the hospital for up to 5 days. She won't be online for quite awhile.

Once she's out of the hospital and settled, I'll be making a trip to see her and the little one.

Kelly

WELCOME BABY KAYLA!!!!! Shauna, I am so happy you both made it through alright!! CONGRATULATIONS MAMA NANS!!!

BLESSINGS TO YOU BOTH!!!

JG Gurl, I am so sorry that you and Andre are going through all this outside drama!!! But Sweets, don't forget...you both have been through much worse and this is just yet another bump in the road we call marriage! I just don't get how some people have the bloody guall(sp?) to call someone FIFTY-SEVEN times!!!! I mean seriously what would have been there back-up plan if Andre had never met you and he moved here? Well, it may be time for them to figure it out! I HATE TO SAY IT BUT ANDRE (bless his sweet nature) might now need to lackhoff EVERYONE!!! It seems that they are taking his sweetness for weakness and I am SURE that is NOT the case. What stinks is that the innocents (the children) will have to suffer because the adults can't seem to understand the meaning of the words "WE DON'T HAVE IT!!"

Look, I know this may sound harsh...but it is time to focus on K & A right now and make your dreams come true!! Good luck Chica, I know this is hard on both of you...but this too shall pass!

Sorry, I've been out of touch for the last few days...We decided to take a spontaneous road trip with the boys to visit my Sis in D.C.!! We went to the Air/Space Museum, Natural History Museum (they have an AWESOME exhibit on Rastafari) & the White House! Ken has been really enjoying the sites, although the weather has been crappy ever since we got here!

Alright, I hope all is well otherwise with our Yardie Family! I'll read up on tings later!

Afternoon Yawdies!!

JG...Hey girl...I can't even imagine the frustration you were feeling during this time. I think about that kind of stuff all the time...folx from back home trying to take advantage of my husband when he reaches here just because they think that he will have it made. Hell, I experience that from time to time now. People always asking him to ask me for stuff, or they will ask him for stuff (even though he doesn't have much) and they feel like it's ok because they believe that he has an American wife that will take care of it. RASS!! I've listened to him tell them that he is" NOT asking me for anything for them! If they want something they should work for it, because she works hard for the things that she has and why should he (or they) take that from me?" Over the past year he has begun to see who his "real" friends are and who are not...and at times it's been hurtful for him, but like I told him, you'll eventually see people's true intentions once you learn to say NO! Luckily for me I've never had that problem! LOL...but saying NO to those that were trying to take advantage of him was something he was not good at doing when we first met a few years ago, and he would always end up on the shi##! end of the stick! But he's come a long way. I tell him it's only going to get worse once he's here because he'll have DIRECT access to more, but he feels like he will be able to handle it...we'll see...Anyway, I'm glad that you and Andre are working through this together, and I know the two of you will continue to stay strong and make the right decisions for YOU and YOUR family! Tell Andre to never mind de bad man dem!! And that the yaardies on VJ got his back if he needs us!! BULLET! BULLET! BULLET!!:lol:

Part of the problem is that Andre had a good job for the last 6 years in JA. He took care of all those freeloaders before and now they feel he needs to continue. We are not in the position to do that. They are not getting that. I feel like any one of them can work. In the family situation alone, there are 5 adults capable of working. Andre also says you are a fool if you starve in Jamaica. There were many times we would fish in the sea, go crabbing, and then climb trees for our dinner.

What you said about the friends......sadly, Andre had many friends in JA. Of them, only 2 of them have not shown their face. The JA friends that remain otherwise, are those who are in the US or Canada. It's been a real eye opener for him. It makes me sad. Really sad.

Morning all and congrats on baby Kayla!

We are already going through this friend issue - DJ has had some tough times in the past few months, starting with his car being stolen. He has learned very quickly who is a true friend and who is not - it's hard to sit by and watch your man hurting - DJ is always the one who helps everyone too, and when he needed it, none of them were around.

And, my frustration item of the day - Another phone gone, he left his cell in a taxi

BLAST THESE JAMAICAN MEN AND THEIR CELL PHONES

We are on like phone number 7 or something. maybe more.

Hey guys, goodnight. Been here catching up.

Congrats again to Nanny and her must-be beautiful little girl.

Everybody else who has good news--congrats and for those undergoing strife--as someone stated earlier--God never gives us more than we can handle.

Lawny--good to have you back and sorry to hear about all the trials that you are going through right now. I am happy to hear that you received an interview date.

About your brother that is having heart trouble--what exactly did the doctor say was wrong with his heart? I hope this doesn't scare you but here is a little synopsis of what they are proposing to do.

Sometime one's heart can go into an abnormal rhythm and has to be shocked back to a normal rhythm. One's heart can fibrillate or flutter (beat without pumping) adn when blood is not pumped the right way from the heart t can clot and cause problems. Sometime IV medications can be used to regulate the heartbeat and if that does not work after a few days, they use the defribrilator to send an electrical shock to your heart, stopping the heart and then it might or will return to its normal beat. Sometimes it takes more than one shock to make this work. Have you ever seen when a person has a heart attack on an TV show and they use those pads to shock them and their body jerks? That is exactly the same thing only the heart is still beating and they have to actually stop it so it restarts normally.

I know this sounds scary but it can be a lifesaver for your brother. At the same time an anesthesiologist is there with sedatives and analgesics to present the pain and so he does not remember the event. They are also there just in case the patient loses his air way, they can immediately intubate them and put them on the breathing machine till their breathing is spontaneous. They never leave the bedside unitl the patient is fully recovered.

I do this on a regular basis in out ICU and it has always been successful and there never was any need to intubate. This is done on very old and sick people also with success.

I hope I did not scare you, but it a good thing for your brother. Just pray and put him in Gods' hands and ask him to guide the cardiologist's hands and all will be well Hoping to hear some good news soon.:thumbs:

Sus is that your wedding gown on your meez? :)

LOL, no I was bored and playing around - My wedding dress will depend on where or when I get married - if my mother is present, it would have to be one with a high neck, lol - I have a tattoo on my chest that she still doesn't know about! I have no clue what I want to do about my wedding - my whole life I had the dream of the whole 9 yards, white dress and all - My Dad passed away last year (it will be a year in June) and right now I can't picture it - I always saw myself walking down the aisle on his arm, and I can't imagine doing it without him. So, simple and private with a big party later on is really appealing to me - DJ wants the full deal.

Dammit, you'll miss me by a day...we come back on the 1st!!
