I LOVE having an RN on our thread...now we jus need a lawyer...anybody...anybody!

Gill

Mommy2B is one I think!!!

Mommy2B is a lawyer - I am a paralegal, and you should all know that we do most of the work! :P:whistle:

That is why there is so much success with immigration because of all the legal advice and counsel we all get from the experts :lol:

Most yardies do their own filing too.

Yup...I noticed that! Good to know about M2B and Susie...now like Yardie said we need an NVC officer and a U.S. Ambassador...perferably the Jamaican one!:lol:I recently made a donation to the Obama campaign and asked them to keep me in mind for the US Ambassador to Jamaica when he gets elected! It's all about WHO you know! ;)

Morning ladies!

Congrats Sunny on NOA#1 that's great! Hopefully the rest will be as quick (and VT will stay just as fast by the time I file, lol)

Congrats, Lawnie! You have to be over the moon - See, I told you lots of touching would make it come!

I don't know how you can keep it a secret, lol - I booked my next trip to JA the DAY after I returned from the last - and I spilled the beans to DJ last night, couldn't hold it in any longer! He was whining about not being with me, and not knowing when he would see me - I finally said "do you think you can make it to the 25th of May?" - He just mumbled I guess, then went on with the conversation - took about 5 minutes for it to sink in that I had given an actual date!

Congrats on the interview date, Claire!!

Mawnin Yardies....

Sus, thanks girl. It;s my darn turn to get touched now. Me, Islandwomarn and some others. Mi Luv touches! TOUCH ME Dag-on-it.....

I second that Sunny, but I'm afraid my touch will be for a RFE.

I didn't remember to respond to the how did you learn patois thing so here goes:

When I went the first 2 trips I was a missionary so there wasn't a lot of freedom in who I hung around and whatnot so I spent most of my time just listening to those around me in church and the children that I would teach would speak in patois a lot amongst themselves and I would just listen intently. Got to know a few people that lived on the same lot as us and I was pretty interested in learning so they taught me a few phrases and key words just to get me started. On the rest of the trips I took I stayed with a JA family and did various things around the community. I really had to learn how to understand what others were saying before I tried to pick it up myself. I accomplished that by just asking all the people I would hang around to chat patois to me and they new I wanted to learn so they would help me as I went along.

Then when A and I started dating he would talk to me in patois over the phone and when we were there. Once it was known around the community that I could understand it people stopped talking to me in English and everyone just conversed in patois around me instead of switching back and forth. When A and I got serious in our dating I felt a lot more comfortable around him and practiced my patois with him. That is basically how I learned the speaking part...I knew for a long time what I wanted to say in my head it was just a matter of getting over my fear and spitting it all out. Of course I got laughed at and made fun of at times but I just persevered. I got better at speaking when A got here and we spoke it in the house. We would speak it over the phone sometimes but with the bad connections and loud noises in the background it wasn't always that easy.

As for the writing part...it is all from the web. I know the words in my head and I picked up a lot of the different spelling for the words on this site and another JA site. It really helped that I understood the words cause then picking up the spelling/typing came pretty easy and natural. All in all for me the key was really understanding it and having so many people talk to me in it for months...I was totally immersed. I never learned from books or anything but I think anything can help.

For anyone interested I know there are some youtube videos of someone reading Dr. Suess in patois. Check out youtube and do a search. Also jamaicans.com has a lot of great resources

Wow I didn't realize I wrote so much

my MIL brought a footbath and some Epsom salts and I tried it, but it neva mek nuh difference :(

Are you sure it's not fractured? The bones in your toes are very easily fractured, and hard to tell. If the swelling does not subside, check it out. It might only be a hairline fracture but it can hurt like he!! and you toe can become deformed. You can also try soaking it in warm water and then icing it down--helps the pain. But don't sit around with it if it keep bothering you.
