Mi have a question...straight talk now

Does your SO get mad if you correct them when the mispronounce a word or something along that line? I just left Sears with my friend and her husband and he's ask one of the sales person for help. So, the salesman ask him where the item was that he had a question about he kept saying OVAHSO! The guy was like excuse, sir, I didn't get that. My friend husband replies...it DEH OVAHSO! Again, the poor salesman replies, sir, I don't understand what your saying LET ME GET SOMEONE THAT SPEAKS SPANISH. (You know I was laughing my A$$ off at that point). So, I told my girlfriend husband that he have to speak so people can understand him and that to remember we speak ENGLISH in Jamaica and that no everybody understand PATWAH. He is so friggin INGNORANT it's UNREAL. So, we start talk to the salesman and im walk weh BEX an a mex up im face...bway mi a tell you im attitude alone woudah mad mi.

DWL  but sometimes yes, and sometimes no, depends on where/how it happens.

Do you think he could do that without his passport? Her problem now is they are planning an August trip and his passport is in the hands of the Jamaican consulate. I hope they get it by then.

??Don't know. You think it will take 5 months to clear up?

I'm glad we are on the adjustment topic - that's my biggest worry about Anthony. We have spent countless hours on the phone talking about it and I'm trying to explain to him the differences in US and JA, especially because of the "bush" I live in. He doesn't quite understand there is no bus or taxi to hop on. Even my daughter (who just turned 6) is worried that he will come with his shorts on when we still have snow!! But so far he has the right attitude about it, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But I will galdly take any suggestions you gals through at me......

Experience will be his teacher. Many things he will just have to learn on his own. Too much talk and you start to sound like his mother. No man wants that. Good luck!

life goes on during and after..don't act like things are peachy inna yuh life cause di man. woman nodeh next to yuh fi si..cause wah yuh hide will be ur enemy..yuh a set up yuh self fi live a lie and try mek tings perfect fi dem...when mi couldn't go a JA mi mek dat clear to Kashi...if mi phone cut off mi no mek up story bout it..just tell it like it is..it is life...not a honeymoon..so don't be fooled those that are just starting out..i'll alwasy be glad that I found u guys when i did cause it made mi aware of some issues..and the adjsutment is a big one...for me at least !!

Soooo tru Kimmy! I haven't gone through the process yet but my cousin came up in November on a K1 visa and he HATES it here. He said the country is TOOO different from Jamaica and he wants to go back, but he's willing to try his best and do what he can for his wife. Personally, I plan on moving back to JA soon as I have enough money saved up. Everytime I go home my family says "me a dead if mi nuh reach farrin". I have to tell them NOWHERE in the world is a bed of roses.

Girl, they just don't know. I tell my people AMERICA is not JOKE! It no EASY! But, you have to be willing to try. My fiance had no INTENTIONS at all to ever come here, but it just happened that we ran into each other and fell in love. We discussed the adjustment process a lot, but I told him, he won't know until he gets here and starts working and gets into the American way of life. I told him, if it's too much for him to handle I'll go back with him. It's easy for me to say that, because that's been my plan for many years.

DJ and I had this discussion on my last trip - Because as much as I love JA, I am 99.9% sure that I could not live there year round - for a variety of reasons, mainly because I don't think I can be that far away from my family - I just feel that it would be tough to earn a good enough income that I would be able to hop a plane at will to come home for a visit or in an emergency - Living in the US, it would be easier to do it by hopping a plane to JA. My family has been through a lot of loss in the past few years, and those of us that remain have been brought closer together by it - I couldn't be so far from my mom (would break her heart) or miss so much of my nephews lives. D is close to his Mom, but by phone only - he hadn't seen her in two years before my last trip. I told him that I could easily move to a warmer climate, but within the US and it would have to be after he was here and we were established - reality is, I make a good living, and we will need that in the beginning. Ultimately, I would love to have a good enough income (win the lottery, whatever, lol) that we would be able to live between both places - spend the winters in JA, summers here.

Immigrating and adjusting is no joke - three of my closest friends moved here from South Africa, Scotland, and Ireland - Even coming from countries that are somewhat similar to ours in educational systems, etc... they all had a hard time adjusting - My friend from SA went from being a straight A student to getting Ds in English - all because of the style by which she wrote = I used to help her to edit her papers, and she went back to an A student - but it was hard for her. I know someone else who came up on a K1, was married a few years, and divorced - his ex did everything for him, and he didn't learn how to do anything for himself. When they split, he had no clue of things like how to balance a checkbook, ATM fees, doing a resume, school, etc.... and had an unbelievably hard time.

Even though I haven't started the process yet (hopefully after my next trip, we have some stuff to sort out first), I think that I have a good grasp on what it will take - and I already know that the hardest thing for me is going to be stepping back and letting him make his own mistakes. But I also know that if I don't do that, I would be setting him up for failure.

Hey All...

I haven't been on here much lately.....getting ready for the interview next week but wanted u all to know Dave did have his medical on 3/18 as planned. I PM'ed some of u about him still needing a couple of the immunizations for the interview and it seems like it worked itself out. (THANKS to JG, Gill and JaLove for the info.) :)

A lot of places are closed down in JA today and monday cause of the holidays but I spoke with the NVC and the R.N. at Andrews memorial who said Dave can just take the "proof" that he got the shots straight to the Interview and we should be fine.

Thanks for all your advice and words of encouragement. I still got about 30 pages of posts to read before i can catch up on what u all been talking about these last few days ( LOL) but i'll keep everyone posted about my case.

Have a good weekend!

Tonisha

Happy Easter To All & Good Afternoon,

Could you tell me how much it cost you with the shots and medical.....I am prepared for about $300 but just checking?

Thanks,

Tonya

Hey Tonya,

My cousin had to pay $200 U.S. Some of the shots he didn't need, but the nurse told him hit would have been a lot expensive if he had gotten it at a clinic before he came for the medical. Does your hubby have any of his shot records or immunization card?

No he doesn't have any records.......I know that he had to have some shots to attend school......so hopefully he will just need a couple.....he is going to Dr. Banbury

Good Morning,

Andrew went and had shots yesterday. I don't know where exactly he went but a friend of his who was denied because of ganga told him it would be cheaper this way. He took a oral dose and 3 other shots. The nurse told him that he would need to follow up in the US. It cost him $120 US and his medical today at Dr. Banbury should be $80-85US.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Peace & Love,

Tonya
