Obama almost as big with GOP as McCainRepublicans like Sen. Barack Obama nearly as much as they like their own likely presidential nominee, Sen. John

That is an extremely good point. The media this morning paid little attention to McCain getting the nomination and loads to the Clinton/Obama 'circus'. It may be hard for McCain to get much airtime while this goes on, which may or may not play a part in the final presidential campaign.

I don't agree that this makes them look bad but rather passionate about their commitment to their own political agendas. However, I guess I see things differently.

I don't think it looks bad either. What it does do however, is take the spotlight off of John McCain - he does have something of an advantage in that he can start campaigning for the general election early - but while the Democratic race is going on I think he's going to have a hard time getting people to listen to him.

There's one way McCain can get a LOT of air time NOW if he wants to.

Announce Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska his running mate.

I for one will take a second look, a third, and then quite a few more... Not of the ol' goat McCain but of his running mate that is..

An interesting article on what Obama means by 'lobbyist' money.

Link

On his website he talks about cleaning up the lobbyist system, which is great, but he's not talking about getting rid of it (which foolishly I thought was his plan) but just ensuring that it's not overtly misused. Well, good for him but not exactly some radical departure from old politics in my book.

Still working on the bipartisan issue. So far it looks as though this is also a nice catch phrase but also somewhat disingenuos to me. Cross party support happens all the time so far as I can work out. However, further insight is welcomed.

"Last August The Boston Globe, in a piece by Scott Helman, took a hard look at Obama’s contributions, noting that “behind Obama’s campaign rhetoric about taking on special interests lies a more complicated truth.” That truth revealed that as a state legislator in Illinois, a U.S. senator, and as a presidential aspirant, Obama had collected hundreds of thousands of dollars from lobbyists and PACs. Helman quoted an Obama campaign spokeswoman saying that after he experienced firsthand the influence of Washington lobbyists, he was taking a different approach to fundraising than he had in the past, and that “his leadership position on this issue is an evolving process.” If Obama’s leadership on campaign financing is indeed evolving, more news outlets should be following the evolution."

From the article.

Sure, but a lot of the circus involves Hillary telling people that she (and McCain) have experience but Obama only makes good speeches.

I've been thinking McCain will pick a woman as VP - was thinking Kay Bailey Hutchinson. I don't know if she warrants a second look though :P

She already said she wasn't interested in being VP, though it could mean a shot at President in 4 years so maybe she'll think that over again.

I don't think it would be to McCain's advantage though. He probably could win Texas without her. He needs someone who can get him a win in a state with a lot of electoral votes.
