Hi all! We are trying to figure out how to obtain a police certificate for my fiance's interview in London.....I have not been able to track down how you go about requesting the certificate. I just spoke with a women (very nice) at the NVC and she said it could take up to 40 days to process it, and that we would have to request it from the local authorities who then request it from the National Indentification Serivice who then sends it to the Embassy in London......is this correct?? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

i don't know how it work for uk.

For France you just have to fill a form online and you get your police certificate 3 days later in the mail.

I needed one from belgium also, i just sent a fax with a copy of my passport to them and received it 5 days later in the mail.

hey I got a police check done at my local police station - at the time they told me it could take up to 40 days before it would even be processed - there was also a 10 pound fee. If you have lived at multiple locations you are supposed to have checks from the different towns you lived (but to me this just slows things up).

It may also help if you know someone on the force or know a local councillor or something who can give things a nudge - worked for me anyway.

Good luck

Tis a bit sucky that the 'new procedure' for getting the UK certificate has gone up to £35 though.

They sure know how to make their money.

The price has gone up, but on the plus side the waiting time has been reduced - I believe it is now 10 days rather than 40. The processing has now been moved to a national department rather than more locally, and the form required is now available from here: http://www.acpo.police.uk/certificates.asp

Please note this new service is only applicable to people wishing to relocate to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States of America.

I applied for my police certificate from my local department just on the cusp of the changeover, but during my wait I was told that the local offices would not be accepting further applications and that I was one of the last that would have to wait up to 40 days and deal locally.
