i hear they can have that in france

To be in the French army you have to be fit and lean. After all, there are volumes of the military manual dedicated to the art of "tactical retreat" which requires much running.

Ouch!

Ich bin ein fat*&@. The first thing I thought was "Good, we don't want them too fit"! (see references below):

World War One

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_war_1

or World War 2 (A.K.A. The war after the one to end all wars and before all of ther ones we've got into since then).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II

I was there for 2 years (86-88) and the German soldiers I saw were pretty fit. That was a long time ago though.

uhm, who is currently involved in two wars?? oh and which country has more fat people than germany?? sorry, but this forum is not the right place to talk about topics like that!

Totally agree to the above

Germany did not start a war with Vietnam,Afganistan,Iraq... just to mention this..

Germany did not test atomic bombs and kill millions of people.

Go stand in the corner.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

The Nazis did want to build an atomic bomb, they just couldn't figure it out and build a bomb before we did.

Let us leave the millions of people dead pissing contest alone for obvious reasons.

At any rate, I don't think anyone was being serious when they were throwing around stereotypes just being joking jerks. For example, my husband and I seriously had this conversation last night at dinner:

Me: "That is a lot of friggin sauerkraut. I don't think you should eat that much. Think of the poor toilet."

Him: "What?"

Me: "I mean that is a lot of sauerkraut. You will be in the bathroom all day tomorrow. Put some back."

Him: "Oh come on. Hallo, I am German. I know what I am doing."

Then he gave me this tongue in cheek smile and shoveled a whole heap of it into his mouth. He can laugh at himself.

I am not sure what happened in the German thread. I tried to figure it out, but I could never properly figure out what the moderator was referring to exactly and why it was worth censoring given the nonsense that is thrown around here in the OT in plain English. I think it was some person with only a half-azzed understanding of German who came in there, thought something said something it didn't, and got their panties in a bunch. Maybe what happened on this thread also.

I don't see anyone defending the French.

It's just not ok that people - who probably have NEVER even been to Germany - judge over Germans like that. My brother is in the German army and YES I get offended, when somebody wants to 'bi*chslap' him. That is a direct insult to members on the forum here. You might as well wanna bi*chslap me too.

I think there is a question of intent. I don't think anyone here was being serious. I don't think anyone believes that Germans sit around all day drinking beer and eating sausages while wearing Bavarian tracht. Some people like seeing their posts, watching those Blue Boxes form. Have to say anything even if it is pointless.

If it has you that upset, it's the perfect place innocent.gif

I think he was being somewhat serious with the sheer number of threads posted here in the OT, just in general, for the purpose of starting an argument, not trying to be a complete azz. It is the internet and all that.

Whether serious, joking, sarcastic, or otherwise....one would think that since VJ is such a diverse make up of all ethnic backgrounds and cultures, remarks such as those should be unthinkable. Posting bigoted remarks in OT is no excuse for that kind of sick and unnecessary behaviour.

ditto. Plus, I'd never say anything bad about germans since they're my ancestors.

Seems the opposite is true. I just don't mean this thread.

I am not trying to excuse it though, just saying.

Agreed, some Germans smell funny...

But Americans match or even beat that: Shopping in pajamas and slippers??? And you can smell some of them from even miles away  Come on, take a shower and get freakin' dressed!

yep, and when you say that you're from Europe they ask you if that's in Australia... ;) ;)
