I believe the rule is that at least one of the sponsors MUST make more than 125% povertyline counting self, dependents, and the prospective immigrant.

There is no "I-134A" like the I-864 has that allows a sponsor to get additional support from a family member to bring the total commitment up to the povertyline.

Either the sponsor or co-sponsor needs to be able to support on their own. What the consulate is doing is replaceing the primary sponsor with the co-sponsor. Technically a non-immigrant can only have only one sponsor. They are choosing the one that meets the requirement.

Later when adjusting status an immigrant can have joint sponsors.

So there is no point getting my girlfriend's Mum to also send me sponsor papers for my interview? What about her friend who is 20, same age as her, no children nd full time job etc... my girlfriend makes $7.50 an hour right now but shes due for a promotion shortly, but she gets about over $1000 every month, is that going to be enough for the sponsor alone?

Regards,

Rich

Is the 1K a month before or after tax? If after tax (Take home) then it may be above the line, if this is before tax, (Gross income) then it wont be enough.

Do you have to file the I-134 at the same time as the I-129?
NO, it is provided to the beneficiary just before visa interview to take into the interview and provide it to the counselor officer doing the interview.

You may want to read further on the embassy's website, you may be able to do a few things to bring your sponsor up to the required amount, like transfer funds to your sponsor and have sponsor list this as an asset.

Assets are valued at 1/3 income, so if income is 1000 below the line, then 3000 in assets are needed to make up for this.

See applicant's own funds on this page:

woah, ok im confused. you said "Is the 1K a month before or after tax? If after tax (Take home) then it may be above the line, if this is before tax, (Gross income) then it wont be enough." isnt that backwards? as in, before taxes is Gross (more money) and after taxes is Net(less money)? so "if it is before tax, gross, it may be enough, but if it is after taxes, net, then it wont be enough." and also confusing, cause someone else just sayid the 125% above poverty level is before taxes (aka gross, aka more money). am i wrong?
