You said to show you similar cases that have happened in AUS. 1-2 years is "recent" for our purposes.

Still I'm sure if you read your national newspaper you could find something similar, if you put your mind to it

So you are saying that these sort of incidents occur at the same rate overseas? Yes?

How could I possibly know that? More to the point how could you?

Provide some statistics to illustrate your point and there might be something to debate. Otherwise, it's just a question of your 'feeling' outraged about teenagers (and I imagine your 'feelings' that corporal punishment would 'solve' these problems) which is meaningless.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Then you missed my point entirely. Boo-Yah said you (by which I assume he meant "anyone") could look up the assorted crimes teenagers commit today by performing a quick Google search. I merely attempted to clarify that Google, despite being a fantastic search engine, is just that -- a search engine and can only find what has been put on the Internet.

Cases like the one this thread was originally about are reported by the media, therefore Google would most likely find that. Understanding this, it would be a mistake to say that just because Google can find whatever has been posted online about criminal teens represents every teenager in the United States, Australia, or even the world.

The studies and statistics are there and I can use my access to academic journals to show them but why should I do that to prove my point to #6 and PH. If they don't agree then they should simply move on rather than saying prove it every single time. I simply do not have the time to sit there and prove every point to someone anonymous disagreeing with me in a visa forum.

You have time to back and forth over generalities, but not to actually prove what you're saying?

I looked up a couple of articles following your question - you can't do the same to prove your own point?

Is this threading trying to prove a point? Or, should it be better spent on improving the lives of Americans by preventing these occurances whether or not it's high or low.

Your guess is as good as mine.

It always seems to come down to this.

1) Kids are messed up. They've always been messed up - only today they're more messed up than they have ever been. Or will be. Ever.

2) Everything you can possibly think of was, is and always will be - better in Australia.

2) Modern parents are $hit and should be in jail.

3) A good beating never hurt anyone.

There is no point to prove and especially not to you. The first post clearly asks a question period.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black with regards to BS...

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Yep you pretty much hit the nail on the head. Apart from the kids have always been messed up and all modern parents being ####. Don't know where that came from.

What the #### is wrong with teenagers??

Investigators say a bloody attack on a rural East Texas family's home may have resulted from family opposition to a daughter's boyfriend.

Rains County Sheriff department confirmed Sunday a 16-year-old girl is one of four suspects being held for the violent murders of her mother and two brothers.

The girl, whose name is being withheld due to her age, is the girlfriend of one of the suspects, investigators revealed. Neighbors told MyFOXDFW.com that the girl's parents, Terry and Penny Caffey, were trying to break up the couple.

More and more teenagers really getting out of their mind, solutions should start with their parents/guardian. This is really serving as bad example.

My solution would be to put these kids in the middle-east war zone and don't give them support. I'll be back next year to pick them up, if they're still alive. Hopefully, they'll be crying for mommy.

Their attitude would turn from whatevaaaa!! to "I want my mommy" within the first hour of being there. The world created for them in the west where they are portrayed to be big and bad, center of the universe, untouchable etc would come tumbling down and back to reality quickly.

I bet nine out of 10 'tough guys' would piss their pants within the first 10 minutes.

At the end of the day, a teen is a suspect in the murder of her parents. If she is convicted then her name should be released for public safety. There are a bucket load of loons out there and I don't believe that therapy and/or time spent in a secure unit will do any good whatsoever. You can't help someone who is able to murder their parents, and would you want to? I worked in social housing in the UK for years, and unfortunately had to deal with a facility that held complete nutjobs. In 8 years, not one of those inmates was released. Why keep trying? If you are a danger to other people, you get locked up or fried.

I do think they let out too many people who should be in psychiatric institutions - though mental healthcare has always been neglected in comparison to the rest of the healthcare system, not to mention the stigma that's still attached to mental illness.

Having worked as a CNA in a mental institution.I can tell you that administarion is very anxious to rehabilitate and relocate the mentally ill to society.Since they do not have any contact with the patients, they don't know that most of them really need to be locked up,period.
