Need Social Security Number to apply for I-485?

Hello everyone, I am wondering how long it takes the social security administration office to issue a social security card. Because I have applied for it for about 5weeks now since I was approved with the work authorization at POE but up till now I have got nothing. I want to apply for the Adjustment of status (I-485) and a section in the form is asking for social security number. My question is: Should I wait to get the social security number before submitting the I-485 form or I can simply write "pending" on that section since that's the only thing delaying the application. If you have the social security card/number at the time you apply for AOS, then enter the number on the form, if not, leave it blank. It is NOT required, nor does having one speed up/slow down your case.

Not required. I didn't have one at the time we filed my forms.
