Hi everyone! I've been away from the forums for a couple months now because after the move here to the US, we were without internet until 2 days ago. We moved to a little town in the mountains here in NC that has only a few places that can actually get high speed internet. After two months of searching for a place that would allow my doggie and also has high speed internet, we moved in March 1st.

I kinda missed Visajourney, I have to admit. I think I'll be one of those people who ten years down the road is still posting here and lurking around. You guys are just too much fun I guess

Anyways, the move to the US went pretty well. I did have to apply for my SSN card twice, since we moved almost as soon as I arrived here, and the first SSN got kind of turned around in the mail. I ended up getting two SSN's so I guess they do forward them, it just takes a looong time

My GC arrived on Feb. 12th, and I was so happy to have it in my greedy little hands, I almost cried lol. It's nice to finally feel like I sort of belong around here.

I got a job at the casino about 20 minutes from here that pays 100% of my health insurance, and people there seem to get a kick out of my Canadianness. A few of them don't even call me by my first name, they just call me "Canada", hehe.

All in all, things are going well. I do miss my family alot, and I find myself worrying often that something may happen to one of them, and I may not be able to be there for them, but I guess that's just one of those risks that we all take when we get into this. David has been wonderful with the transition, so I know that helps alot.

Anyways, I'm glad to see alot of you that were here before I lost my internet are still hanging around :) Here's to wishing everyone who's going through this right now a speedy processing and an even faster interview with a smooth adjustment to their new life down here.

It's good to be back!

Hi Misty,

Glad you are back and that it's going smoothly. So you moved to a small town, were you from a town or city in Canada? Just wondering, if you are living in the city before, how that adjustment is.

Hi Misty,

Glad you are back and that it's going smoothly. So you moved to a small town, were you from a town or city in Canada? Just wondering, if you are living in the city before, how that adjustment is.

I spent most of my life in a city up north in BC with a population of about 80k, but the last 6 years or so, I was in Victoria, which has a population (I think) of about 300k.

I do love the small town feeling here though. It gets pretty busy during tourist season apparently, but the peace and quiet here is refreshing. When I see "peace and quiet" by the way, I mean the days that the jerks in the apartment below us aren't throwing a party with 15 loud, obnoxious, beer chugging, belching college kids who un-beknownst to them are going to get a nasty surprise next week when my husband starts his job here at the apartment as the security dude

PS- Congrats on your successful interview! I'm so glad to hear you're finally done with NVC and never have to deal with them again. The amount of time they took just completing your case only reinforced our suspicions that they have gerbils working away over there, which would explain a few things I guess. When do you have your move to the US planned?
