Hi all,

One super quick question.....

I believe that the petitioner's birth certificate is not required for the K-1 interview, right?

Please correct me if I am wrong...

Cheers!

It is not normally required that the visa applicant have even a copy of the petitioner's birth certificate for the visa interview. I've never heard of that being required, and I can't imagine why it ever would be. If you want more reassurance, take a look at the embassy's (the exact one where your fiance(e) will interview) website for a list of required documents for the interview.

Thanks! I checked the Vancouver Embassy under 'Embassy Info' and sure enough, the K1 Checklist asks for an original BC for each of the people named in the application. I'm taking that to mean both the USC and the Canadian.

CL79, I suggest you check out the requirements for your fiances embassy as Don E. suggested.

When they say "each of the people named in the application", they are referring to the applicant(s)....in other words your fiance(e) and any children.

I'll qualify my comments by noting that my most recent experience has been with the Moscow Embassy.

You can always send a copy (or original) of your (the USC) birth certificate if you want, but I'm pretty sure it's not required.

Just my opinion.....I could be wrong. :)

Thanks for all the replies. You guys have been extremely helpful and I really appreciate that.

I think what I'll do is getting my fiance to make copies of his original birth certificate and have it certified as "true and correct copy of the original" Hmmm, is there such thing in the US? I read from another post that you can't certify a birth certificate?

Cheers!

Since it seems that you still want that certified or original copy of the petitioner's birth certificate..... :)

Anyone born in the U.S. can obtain certified copies of his/her birth certificate from the state where he/she was born. These certified copies would be considered "original" documents.

By the way, I now gather that you are the foreign fiancee?

Looks as though you are being very thorough and careful, and I'm sure that you won't have any problems at the interview!

Yeah, I've decided to go ahead and bring both birth certificates to the interview - I'd rather be way overprepared than find out I'm missing something! All my fiance had was his original BC from 36 years ago. He wasn't eager to let me take it, so he just went on to the website of the Vital Statistics department for his home state, and he ordered a new one. It was easy.

Good luck on your interview!

I suppose I better play safe and get that Birth Certificate from my fiance though it is not listed as one of the requirements on my Packet 3 checklist. I believe he could order it by calling or writing, right? I mean if he has to order it in person, he will have to go all the way back to Michigan and he is North Carolina right now...geez.

Oh yes, I am the foreign fiancee and the crazier one  I guess I am careful with all these since I have been reading so many things on VJ, so I am trying to learn from people who have been through this.....and I do hope that I won't have any problems at the interview too....

All the best to you on your journey.....

Cheers!
