I wonder how Don Joy would feel if this situation were a bit closer to home. How would you feel if your wife (once she becomes a PR) was charged under the Patriot Act, cleared, but then still deported back home?

Given that all that's required to get a person considered "suspicious" is to have a similar sounding name to an actual "troublemaker"; or for example, to be the victim of an identity theft that was used in the commission of a crime - I don't think its asking much to want to know under what criteria the deportation decision is made.

The Patriot Act is borderlilne to stripping the rights of both those naturalized as well as native born!

If our government wants to start playing gestapo, the immigrants is where it will begin because there are enough vaugaries in their legal residency to allow them to get away with it.

But you better hope due process doesn't become a thing to be monkeyed with. Because citizens will be next.

I'm no expert on the USA Patriot Act, but it was passed by Congress, signed by our president, and apparently a vast majority of it was upheld by US federal courts. A lot of people make blanket statements about it being Gestapo and/or Nazi like. I personally find comparisons of the USA to Nazi Germany as being rather distasteful and highly misleading. How about listing specific provisions that strip us of our constitutional rights and are in line with the Nazis tactics? I would venture to say that a vast majority of the people on VJ don't have a clue as to what the USA Patriot Act is all about. We just hear the rhetoric and blanket statements. How about some details about what specifically you are refering to?

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
