Funny enough that we can tie in the movie mentioned above about a particular aspect of Venezuelan society with Colombian reality-

Colombia currently holds the distinction for being the top spot for kidnappings in the world.

The movie was good and realistic, but I did not like the light in which many venezolanos got portrayed. What I do know about the film is that for being considered contraband, it sure did real good at the venezuelan box office. Usually you'd expect an illegal film not to be shown at movie theaters where 'banned.'

And taking the word of South Americans that can afford visas to our country is probably not exactly the most balanced source of political and socioeconomic insight... I guess that is more universal than just looking at one particular continent no. We should also ask those that live there about life in general... I'm sure that they will have different takes on Chavez, Morales, Uribe, and what our foreign policy is like.

From CNN:

Ecuador's President Rafael Correa withdrew his government's ambassador in Bogota, Colombia, and ordered troops to the country's border following a Colombian raid against leftist rebels inside Ecuador.

In a televised address, Correa called a raid by Colombian national police and air force one day earlier a "massacre" that killed civilians.

I smell war mongerer. You'd figure Colombians would learn from the example of Uribe's ally in the White House and the great duping of most of us. Colombian media is already touching on such topics as the supposed links between FARC and the governments of Venezuela, Ecuador and even Nicaragua... how particularly predictable.

From Bloomberg:

March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Colombia, after bombing a rebel camp in Ecuador last weekend, filed a complaint with the United Nations asking neighboring countries to stop harboring terrorist organizations.

Documents found by Colombian troops at the destroyed camp show ties between the rebels and the government of Ecuador's President Rafael Correa, Colombian police Chief Oscar Naranjo said late last night.

The links, if proven, would violate a UN Security Council resolution which calls on countries to ``deny refuge to those that finance, plan or commit acts of terrorism,'' and to prevent such elements from ``using their respective territories for that end,'' Colombia's Vice President Francisco Santos told UN members at a meeting in Geneva.

...

Ecuadorean Deputy Defense Minister Miguel Carvajal denied the accusations and called them a ``tall tale,'' according to Caracol Radio.

From Reuters:

BOGOTA, March 3 (Reuters) - Colombia will not send extra troops to its frontiers with Venezuela and Ecuador after its neighbors increased their military presence on borders after the killing of a top rebel inside Ecuador, the government said on Monday.

I'm willing to bet that Chavez also has some ties to them that he doesn't want revealed.

I didn't hear Chavez denouncing Turkey when they invaded Iraq.

From the AP:

HAVANA (AP) — Fidel Castro blamed the U.S. for bringing Colombia to the brink of a military clash with neighboring Venezuela and Ecuador, writing on Monday that "genocidal plans of the Yankee empire" created tensions between the South American nations.

..

"We can plainly hear the trumpets of war to the south of our continent as a consequence of genocidal plans of the Yankee empire," Castro wrote in an essay published in the Communist Party daily Granma.

...

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe is an ally of Washington, which has backed his country's battle against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, the country's largest guerrilla group.

...

The older Castro is a socialist ally of Chavez, and the oil-rich South American nation has helped keep Cuba's economy growing by providing nearly 100,000 barrels of subsidized oil a day to Cuba.

That's funny considering that Fidel is dead. I see his statement as a kind of "Tale from the Crypt."

How do you know?

Because suddenly he just disappears. If it would have come out that he died, a power grab would have happened and Raul would have been SOL. Instead, he just goes into hiding until Raul takes over power. He'll officially die soon enough.

I am with anewkindoffeeling on this one. I think he is dead also. It is kind of like when Mao died and the Chinese government took his dead body down to the river and filmed him floating to deny his death saying that he was swimming instead. When Chavez was visiting during his "illness" saying he is doing well, I think he was dead then or almost. Raul needed the extra time to secure the transition.

With the way Cuba treats their people you don't think the news of Fidel's death would not start the cauldron of revolution boiling? Regardless of what a wonderful place Micheal Moore thinks it is. We can only hope that Cuban people may be free of this nightmare in our lifetime.

New information: Columbia is reporting that they have evidence from computers seized that Chavez gave FARC $300M. This could explain why he was so quick to put his military on the Columbian border.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/03/...mbia/index.html

Evidence found in computers seized in a raid over the weekend suggests that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez recently gave the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia $300 million, Colombia's national police chief said Monday.

Ecuadoran soldiers board a helicopter Monday to Angostura, near the Colombian border.

FARC has fought to overthrow the Colombian government for 40 years.

Chavez had no immediate response to the allegations involving him.

Naranjo said other evidence in the computers suggests FARC purchased 50 kilograms of uranium this month.
