Didn't mean to sound self-righteous. Just wanted to clarify that this is not a silly rule, it's a law. Some people might think it's silly but we have lots of silly laws out there that we still have to obey.

But, I do agree that it is a personal choice of the GC holder. As long as they understand the possible repercussions of their actions, then it's really up to them.

Here in Arizona there's a new policy of asking everyone stopped by a police officer about there status in this country. The Sheriff here feels that one of the biggest problems in this community is illegal immigration because of black and gray markets that develop out of it. Whether this is right or wrong it is an important consideration when thinking about not carrying your greencard.

Carrying your greencard or not carrying your is a personal decision but it's important to recognize the risks involved. Also I think the varying opinions on this subject has a lot to do with the local communities current stance on illegal immigration. Some places it's probably no risk, some places may be very high risk.

Yup, couldn't agree more. Those of us saying we (or our SO's) do carry it aren't saying we're better than others for carrying it, we're just trying to help point out that it's the law.
