My wife came to US on K1 and now is returning to Iloilo to bring her son back to US. She was told that she had to purchase her ticket using the name on her passport (maiden name). We thought about her changing her passport to her married name while she is home in the Philippines but are concerned she will have a problem at the airport either with the airline or customs officials. She has her advanced parole in her maiden name and her work authorization in her married name. Also will carry our marriage certificate and her birth certificate. Has anyone experienced this situation? Any advice very much appreciated.

She needs to use her maiden name on her purchased ticket since her passport was still on her maiden name. She will only show to the US Immigration when she come back the marriage certificate or her greencard as proof of her status in the US when she enter again.

Changing her passport in her married name in the Phils. would not be possible. Not unless it is needed to be renew or you've been already reported your marriage to her at the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. This is only based on my experience, I tried to report my marriage when i am in the Phils last June when we visit. but the adviced that I get in DFA records office, is that i need to report it in Washington DC first, and they will give your registered report of marriage form and will assigned registered number for the NSO legal filing in the Phils.

So when i come back to US, we reported our marriage thru mail to the Phil. Embassy in Washington DC, I sent the necessary documents they've asked for, and I included the renewal of my passport for changename to my married name even it will still took 2-3 months for my passport to expire. And it took me, 2 weeks to get back my registered report of marriage copy form and my new phil. passport in my married name.

I just got back from my trip to philippines last month to bring my son with me here in the US but in my experience I dont have any problem regading the lastname. I used my married name even for the ticket and they will not gonna ask u about it.if ever they ask then she just need to say I got married already.Let her bring her MC because she needs that in NAIA for travel tax.she can also show her work authorization or driver license or any id with her new last name...

hope this help a little bit...

Have a great day!!!\

you need to prove who the ticket holder is. We changed Claudeth's name in her passport at the Filipino embassy in L.A. and it was a nightmare. If you plan to do this in the Philippines make sure you take all the K-1 documentation including the approval NOA and your registered marriage certificate. You will need copies of everything. We actually had to go back because we were missing some of the docs. They also wouldn't tell us all at once what was needed so I spent the entire morning going back an forth between the application lines and a copy machine. The Filipinos have learned bureaucracy well :P

when we visited phil last yr my husband bought a ticket in my married name. i do asked about it here on VJ coz i was concern knowing my passport is still on my maiden name. they said just bring my marriage cert for safety and i did... no problem for me at all! in my domestic flight denver to san fran i just presented my drivers license and from san fran to tiepe i showed my passport and also with my drivers license to proove and its under in one name. lol... when i get back to the US, the naia airport asked for my GC and so does passport, but in the port of entry back to san fran, just my GC and havent presented my marriage cert at all not once (but i do strongly suggest to bring it for emergency/safety reason)... it'll be fine!!!

we're going back to phils this coming may for our wedding there..my question is if it's ok to buy a ticket on my married name and just show my ead id and green card w/c is on my married name?any advice pls

The airline may ask for your passport. Your ticket should match the name on your passport, but you can bring your marriage certificate if you want to get the ticket in your married name.

It's too late for this trip, but you should get your passport amended to your married name to avoid this problem in the future.

Have you looked at the web site for the embassy in DC? They might list what you will need. I know one thing for sure, you will need copies of every document they ask for because they put them in their file. If the USC has been married before you will need divorce papers or death certificate, you will need your marriage certificate and they even wanted a copy of the K-1 visa in Claudeth's old passport, at least the embassy in L.A. did.
